Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa's fascinating story of faith, conversion and vocation
VATICAN CITY Forty-eight prelates from Africa are currently in Rome for the Synod on the Family.
In speaking with the bishops of Africa about the synod, sometimes surprising and beautiful stories emerge about their countries, their culture, and even their own family lives.
One such story is that of Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of the Blantyre archdiocese in Malawi, who is a convert from Islam to Catholicism.
Archbishop Msusa, 53, serves as vice-chairman of the eight-country association of member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa. He was ordained a priest of the Missionaries of the Company of Mary, commonly known as the Montfort Missionaries.
A friend of mine doing research on church history came across this. A perfect story appropriate for Easter Sunday.
Some Muslims - perhaps exaggerating a bit - claim that 6,000,000 African Muslims are becoming Christians each year. They are deeply worried.
I hope the conversions continue.
What a wonderful Easter blessing for him and for his family.
Reports from missions organizations around the world report that muslims are turning to Christ and being baptized in impressive numbers, even in so-called “closed” countries. But with 1.6 billion of them, worldwide, it’ll take a while to make a dent.
Oh how special. All rewards .. no punishment.
OTOH, how many of these new converts are real born again believers VS. joining the mainstream as an excuse to leave Islam?
Well either way it is encouraging.
Who are you suggesting should be punished?
“Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of the Blantyre archdiocese in Malawi, who is a convert from Islam to Catholicism.”
Let’s pray this dear Muslim soul didn’t just convert to the catholic denomination, but more importantly, to Christ Himself, for eternal life.
My view is that if they merely give a vocal assent to Christ, I’d perhaps question it. But when they publicly walk into the waters and are baptized by immersion, for all to see; that’s serious and convincing. Also, given how committed and fanatical they can be following an empty cult; just imagine the impact to their entire being, body, soul and spirit, when they accept Christ, and the living, loving Spirit of God takes up residence in their inner being. Now you’re talking yuuuge commitment; if I may borrow a phrase.
It could all just be taqiyya.
By their fruits Ye Shall know them!
Like I put in my post 10, it could all just be taqiyya. These are muslims we’re talking about. How many are honest to us infidels?
Muslims becoming Christians! Inshallah!
There may be some of that, too, but the organizations we support report the joy and liberty these converts experience when they receive Christ, and they soon begin evangelizing family members. Even Mullahs are getting saved and wind up leading Bible studies and teaching soul winning; glorifying Issa, their name for Jesus.
My thoughts exactly.
Infiltrators.
