One problem I foresee with this is the security parts will not be properly inter registered, which can only be done by Apple, so when he attempts to do an upgrade, he's going to be hit with the dreaded "Error 53" and a bricked phone that will not boot as the four interregistered components refuse to work together without recognizing the security registrations. Do you actually think that this problem hasn’t been encountered before in China? There are all kinds of work arounds for this. Not a problem. Not at all.
DIY is very big in China, and the number of small mom-and-pop shops offering to do this kind of work number in the tens of thousands.
