Venezuelas crisis combines mind-boggling economic mismanagement, private-sector decimation, the crippling of democratic institutions, the suppression of individual freedom, and widespread human rights violations. Severe shortages of food and medicine coupled with hyperinflation are a daily struggle for most Venezuelans, except for elite government officials, some of whom are facing drug trafficking, money laundering, and corruption accusations. Given that Venezuelas crisis is man-made, the international community has found it difficult to agree on a unified response. However, Venezuelas Supreme Court decision to revoke the opposition-dominated congressional authority, and President Nicolas Maduros subsequent mandate to reverse it overnight, should dispel any remaining reservations on the need for urgent, coherent action. Denying parliaments legislative powers represents not only an unconstitutional act, but also the final straw leading the Organization of American States (OAS) and multiple other international organizations and countries to declare Venezuela a dictatorship.

No tyrant should be allowed to die a natural death.
There is a dictator inside every leftist.
Send The Burn and Paul Krugman down there to fix it.
You are so right my friend. Castro? Bummer they couldn’t overthrow him. Now is a good time for what’s left.
Halting Venezuela’s meltdown? How about California? Frankly, get rid of the leftists and the people will reverse it themselves without the help
Hunh. Maybe we can, oh I don’t know, depose the leader and induce/incite a revolution where a violent thug comes to power and kills tens of thousands of people even as he promises prosperity. Until he’s found as well to be totally corrupt and then 2-3 billion more of the country’s wealth is spirited away into a Swiss bank.
Perhaps by the 317th time we might learn that interfering in another country’s political system, particularly in the case of a country like Venezuela that is of some but not a lot of strategic importance, is a total rat trap unless and until we devote astronomical attention to it, and then we become the new dictator and incite our own revolution.
I don’t claim to know the answer, but intervening isn’t it.
Make no mistake, this is what progressives will take us to. Look how they politicalize federal law enforcement and the judicial process.
Was Pinochet a good response to the ills of Chile?
Heck, most wear it on their sleeve.
No, we need to prolong it until the final implosion.
I’m sympathetic to the Venezuelans who despise socialism, after all, look at how we allowed zero to hack us to pieces over 8 years with virtually no recourse. Must be 10X worse there.
They need to crash and burn as the cautionary epilogue to the Leftist Era the world has suffered under for almost a decade.
Any US Academic can tell you that...
Any US Academic can tell you that...
Modern American leftists are the most brilliant leftists the world has ever known, Just ask one of them.
We should ship our brightest and smartest Harvard trained leftists to Venezuela to show them how it’s done.
In fact we should ship them ALL to Venezuela..
Nothing like a practicum...
Yes.
“The United States, multilateral institutions, and the global community should prepare to help Venezuela through the development of international humanitarian and financial assistance.”
Yeah, prop them up so they can continue to oppress their people for another few decades.
The US in a humanitarian gesture could send Bernie, Hillary, and 0bama down there to help get them on the right track
I agree. We have wasted untold amounts of lives & capital trying to civilize the uncivilized. It is rarely worth it.
However, that shouldn’t keep us from completely ostracizing, boycotting, & shunning such countries. We should have zero business & governmental relations with such countries.
Immigration from such countries should not be allowed. People unhappy with their government should stay there & work to change it. Freedom is always better & lasts longer when it is earned rather than given.
