Warning that there is a pretty graphic video from a surveillance camera at link.

South Africa is a rancid next of criminal behavior,

What?

Always hated patrols in tight jungle where we had to be single file after the guy behind me with an off safety m79 blooped a 40mm grenade right next to my feet. Thank God for adequate arming range. Armed folks behind you can be worrisome.

Well, his aim was true...

Very heady incident.

Kinda blows your mind...

If you find yourself in a situation where you are called upon to address a deadly force threat, you must make sure that you don’t have bystanders either in or proximate to your line of fire.

Yup, but it doesn't have to be a deadly threat situation though. Can happen when you're out hunting with friends, for instance, as happened to me when I was a teenager.

My best friend and I were deer hunting. We agreed to move through the woods abreast of one another, not to move off our line of travel, always keep the other guy in sight, etc. Seemed like a safe plan.

I saw a deer. I looked to my right. I could see my buddy. I got the deer in my crosshairs. My trigger was about to break, when what should happen?

My buddy came flying out of nowhere right directly across my field of view into my crosshairs. He saw the same deer and wanted to get a shot.

My God, he doesn't know to this day how close he came to dying absolutely dead doornail dead that day.

I never went hunting with another person ever again. Not worth it. If you can't trust the person you trust most, you can't trust anyone.

My impression from afar is that once Mandela was elected and apartheid ended that South Africa went from a relatively safe nation with some black ghettoes/townships to a very dangerous and corrupt nation with a few white areas that had to be made into virtual fotresses (as the Oscar Pistorius trial indicated).
