Actor Peter Hansen, known for his role as lawyer and addiction counselor Lee Baldwin on General Hospital, has died at the age of 95.

Hansen died Sunday in Santa Clarita, California, the General Hospital twitter account confirmed Tuesday.

Though he made over 100 film and television appearances, Hansen was best known for his role as the stalwart Lee Baldwin on General Hospital and its spin-off Port Charles. He appeared on the weekday soap opera from 1965 through 2004, making his last appearance at Lila’s (Anna Lee) funeral in 2004 and retiring from the screen thereafter. His character began as Port Charles’ “go-to” attorney but eventually served as Mayor of Port Charles and on the GH Board of Directors. In 1979, Hansen won the first-ever Outstanding Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy award for his depiction of Lee Baldwin’s battle with alcoholism.

Had friends in college that loved to watch that stuff, I hated it!!

I, on the other hand watched more intellectual stuff like MST3K when it came on at night.

The soap operas were more like “as my stomach turns” but would have watched them if Rifftrax were doing them.

Since you know soap language would you be willing to help finance my proposed new soap: “Community Walk In Clinic?”

I used to watch General Hospital many many years ago. I would come home from elementary school and watch it. I used to rush home from high-school and watched. In college, at the dorm, we watched in the commons area. Later in life, when I worked, I recorded it. I haven’t watched it for years now, and I think it’s actually gone, but I remember “Lee Baldwin”. I’m sad to hear he has passed, but he lived to a very ripe old age. God bless him.

What I remember is when I was a kid, on nice days and I’d rather just go out and play, my mom would draw the curtains and watch her soap operas. I’d be there in a dim living room with the sun outside and these boring shows on the TV. I took that opportunity as my nap time and slept through most of it.

Luke raped Laura my senior year of high school

In my college years Luke and Laura fall in love despite that little issue

Imagine that theme today in the Howl Era

We watched them there wasn’t TV like now

3-5 channels back then

My mother watched As The World Turns with that vamp Lisa

Her and her wonderful old black maid Violet who could sure cook with TV trays in the den glued to that crap on a black and white Zenith....

it was so funny

Watched the Hot and Horny too

A fair number of stars came up that way then

Demi Moore

Laura was Genie Francis who’s fairly conservative and was every kids wet dream in the mid to late 70s

I bought my first VCR in 1980, what a great piece of equipment, a Panasonic. Got it by mail order from 47th Street Photo in New York and it was pricey, about $1000.

I started recording some of the better soaps at the time, some of them were better than the what was in at night.
“All My Children”, my personal favorite “One Life To Live”, sometimes “General Hospital”, sometimes “Guiding Light”.

Good era for the soaps and I do remember Peter Hansen, great actor.

When able to do so, General Hospital was the go-to for this type genre. The Luke and Laura story line being played at that time.

Failed to realize that Mr. Hansen also appeared in the movie “When Worlds Collide”.

RIP, Sir.
