WASHINGTON For more than half a century, old-fashioned, no-frills highway rest stops have welcomed motorists looking for a break from the road, a bathroom or a picnic table where they can eat lunch.
But in some states, these roadside areas are disappearing.

In Maine it is because of queers!
We’re building new ones in Texas, as part of other roadwork.
Unless they are manned 24/7 I don’t stop anymore. I was chased out of 2 different rest areas by homo-trolls, once while trying to find a shady place to eat lunch and read the paper and another time when I needed a nap.
I had no idea rest stops were so expensive to maintain.
Hundreds of thousands a year for “bare bone” rest stops!
Rest stops are very helpful when travelling with pets.
The commercial stops are very busy and seldom have grassy areas. It’s a much larger time break, but you end up getting to rest far less, if at all.
Rest stops are also a godsend when towing a trailer. You get to park with the big rigs so you generally don’t have to try to wedge into a mico-car-sized space or park at the edges of a lot.
There was a rest stop along Interstate 79 in Green County,PA. called Lone Pine that was closed because it was a meeting place for Queers.
Mostly we stopped to stretch our legs and use the bathrooms. We normally drove through the night only stopping at them in SC, GA, and FL. Never in VA or NC even on the way north as those were creepy and dangerous.
These were of strategic value when planning long family roadtrips. We could always could on finding some relief at regular intervals to walk around and stretch. Sad to see that perverts and socialists have made them exceedingly difficult to keep safe and properly funded.
My dad never worried about falling asleep at the wheel. Mom blabbed all the way!!
In Virginia we called them roadside tables. Too many weirdos on the prowl these days.
My last trip to Florida at interstate rest stops FORCED me to change my habit of parking away from the buildings. I had people approach my vehicle on 3 different occasions in 2 separate states asking for gas money. I cut an imposing figure and can usually end any thoughts of further escalation but...I can’t imagine a woman traveling alone and not exercising extreme situational awareness.
After the 3rd hassle I strapped up and remained so the rest of that adventure and now exercise on the side of preparedness routinely.
Rest yes but not sleep, park close to the building.
While traveling at night we would listen to Coast-to-Coast for a good laugh and to stay awake.
I tried to sleep once but no one was around and it was the middle of the night. I was scared to death and stayed about 10 minutes to catch my breath and went on to get to a full service rest area.
I have a photo of a MA rest-stop building with a sign outdoors, “Do not urinate on the walls”.
I used to never believe the Bible Story of Sodom and Gomorrah until I seen how they behaved for the last 10 years or so. One highlight reel of a “Pride” (really Shame) event, and it isn’t hard to imagine an entire city behaving that way.
My folks used to travel around the country in winter with an RV.
They used to refer to many of those places as, “Pickle Parks”
“In Maine it is because of queers!”
Figure in most states it’s because of the queers.
Figure in most states its because of the queers.
I can personally verify this to be the case here in Florida. There was a beautiful rest area on I-75 at the Jacaranda junction (Mile 193), and it was a "hotspot". It's been closed down for 30 years now, proof that this is an old, old problem.
Now, with websites that homosexuals frequent looking for hookup spots, it's only gotten worse. One of our most beautiful, secluded beach areas here, Caspersons, is often populated by old men looking for homosexual sex, despite continual police efforts to prevent it.
