That is exactly what happened. The singer simply could not, given his alcoholic intake, enunciate In the Garden of Eden. They finally settled for Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida, after deciding it didn’t sound so bad after all.

I think “Sukiyaki” was a one-hit wonder in the USA. Circa early 1960’s. Pretty tune.
