Is it possible to freeze Vodka?
(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...
I had a friend who was a serious alcoholic. His freezer was basically filled with Vodka bottles, and since I don't drink, I thought it was funny they were never frozen. So to answer the age-old question- can you freeze Vodka with liquid nitrogen???
freezing point of alcohol is about -170 F.
Liquid Nitrogen is about -320 F.
Why is this even a question?
Because he also freezes Peeps.
Oh, and smoke comes out his nose.
Russians!
Yep-I’m sure it was fun to play with liquid nitrogen but there was no need for an experiment.
Yah, that's cold for sure, but note ...
The temperature of liquid nitrogen can readily be reduced to its freezing point 63 K (−210 °C; −346 °F) by placing it in a vacuum chamber pumped by a vacuum pump.
This demo can be found on Youtube, as I found after they started talking about NITROGEN ICE on Pluto after the Horizons fly-by.
Pluto, man ... not a planet ... hah!
Or, you could also say that there was a resolute and unyielding need for an experiment
At that temp how come it didn’t freeze his tongue?

Most interesting liquid nitrogen experiment involves filling a balloon with pure oxygen and attaching the balloon to a small glass test tube. Carefully place the test tube in liquid nitrogen. Asthe oxygen cools the balloon will deflate. When the balloon is fully deflated the test tube is removed from the liquid nitrogen... blue colored liquid oxygen can be observed in the test tube.
From Tom Weller's 1985 book Science Made Stupid (and a Hugo award winner, IIRC):
The cornerstone of modern science is the scientific method. Scientists first formulate hypotheses, or predictions, about nature. Then they perform experiments to test their hypotheses. There are two forms of scientific method, the inductive and the deductive.
INDUCTIVE:
formulate hypothesis
apply for grant
perform experiments or gather data to test hypothesis
alter data to fit hypothesis
publish
DEDUCTIVE:
formulate hypothesis
apply for grant
perform experiments or gather data to test hypothesis
revise hypothesis to fit data
backdate revised hypothesis
publish
LOL. BUT...”publish” is not the right ending point. It is always “publish...and recommend LOTS more research money be spent on this critically important area.”
"More research is needed to clarify these relationships."
That's interesting - my ex wife is an alcoholic and she would do the same thing. I heard it was an alcoholic's "trick" like always parking so you're facing out - you don't have to back up which is dicey when you are drunk.
So why do alcoholics put vodka in the freezer?
Because the cookie jars, tea canisters, shoe boxes, kitchen drawers, and night stands were already full of vodka bottles.
I suppose you can’t smell it on their breath, and it looks like water?
