Italy could soon offer menstrual leave

It’s that time of the month and all you want to do is stay in bed.

If you are a woman employed in Italy, you might soon get to do that if you can prove you suffer from painful periods.

The Italian parliament is considering a bill that would require employers grant women three days of paid leave every month, according to the Washington Post.

To qualify for menstrual leave, the Post said, women would need a certificate from a medical specialist.

The bill, which says that between 60 and 90 per cent of women suffer from painful periods, was presented on March 13 by four women lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Party. It could be approved in the coming months, the Post said, citing Rome’s Il Messaggero.

Critics of paid menstrual leave say it raises privacy issues, and worry that it might deter companies from hiring women.

Three days a month of paid leave? How long will it take for three quarters of Italian men to decide they’re trans-women?

I’m all for it. PMS is a leading cause of PTSD in a work environment.

Let’s just cut all the BS. This isn’t about menstrual cramp leave. Its just simply one more item in the laundry list of things that the state mandates that people can not work and get paid for. No different from mandating that people get paid for a full week of work but only have to work 4 days, or the infamous French 35 hour maximum work week. At the end of the day, if people aren’t productive, society gets poorer. There’s no way around that. So in the long run, all these “paid leave” laws simply make it worse for future generations who will be relatively more poor than if the current generation worked more.

Haven’t they heard that males and females are exactly the same? Differences are all in the mind and people can decide what they want to be. Women should just identify as a male during their menstrual time and go to work.

Will men be able to identify as a woman and get a certificate from a “medical specialist”?

To be honest there about 3 days a month you don’t want to be around an Italian woman, they can get down right brutal.

If a similar law were to pass in Ontario it would significantly change the current law, said Ido Katri, a Trudeau and Vanier scholar at the University of Toronto’s faculty of law.

“This would create a great imbalance of rights, between people who menstruate — a group that might include also people who do not identify as women — and those who do not, that would be hard to justify,” he said.

So, the two groups are not male / female, but rather those who menstruate and those who don't. I am beginning to worry that I am not going to be able relate in this new world order we have...

Please God let my blood be that or Roman Soldiers and not these freaks.

Likely Norsemen who invaded Sicily because I’m blond/blue and mom’s from Sicily.

Pop’s from Naples.

Yeah, really. I’d have no problem with the ladies in the office not being around during that time.

Just so long as I get 3 paid days off a month as well. Got to have equity!

Italy's stock market has exploded since Trump took office.

This might turn that around.
