Rapper “40Glocc” Needs A Name Change For A Very Obvious Reason
Bearing Arms ^ | Bob Owens

The safest place in the desert is directly behind this clown’s target. The most dangerous place? Anywhere else within range. He can call himself 40Glocc (an obvious reference to a .40-caliber Glock pistol), but I think other rap names may be more appropriate.

Too bad the .40 is getting traded in or sold no matter what gun it is since PD’s all over are going back to 9mm.

I live in black bear country in the Colorado Rockies. I usually have bear issues every year. Inside I have a 12 ga with slugs. When outside working or in town I pocket carry a Kahr MK40. In town I carry 180 Gold Dot JHP. In the yard I change the magazine to Double Tap 200 gr lead hard cast wide flat nose loads that should shoot through 3 ft of bear.

I have never had to shoot a bear, my dogs are pretty good at chasing them away and they don’t come back.

These are stout .40 cal loadings from Doubletap. They are 200 Gr lead hard-cast wide flat nose at about 1000 fps. They are not fun to shoot in a small gun, but they have been reliable in my testing and pretty accurate.

I have other guns that are harder to carry in the yard, Dan Wesson 6” 44 mag, Fusion Firearms 6-Inch Longside 1911 10mm, Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag.

My dogs should give me time to get a head shot so I think I am good. Thinking about getting extra spare mags so I can have spare city and mountain loads at the same time.

I know, I carry a .40 about 85% of the time, .357 sig about 10%, and a 9 when I want something small and light, but a bear, man I don’t know.

I had a bear on the back deck messing with the house at night. It was not a huge bear....but it did not leave. I got my Mossy 500 12 ga with slugs and then let the dogs out. One of my dogs bit the bear on the butt before the bear jumped off the deck into a pine tree and climbed down. I never saw it again:)

With normal loads I agree with you. These hard cast flat nose are designed to penetrate and break bones. The .40 cal is the smallest caliber I have ever seen them in commercial loadings from Double Tap. The 44 mags are supposed to be good for penetration of 4-ft of bison. I figure these 40 cal should be good for 3-ft of bear. The recoil is way up there, but I have fired several boxes with no failure to function. Even with the recoil I have been able to shoot adequate groups. I have to wear a bicycling glove when shooting these because a couple mags equals web between thumb and 1st finger bleeding. I do not shoot these for normal practice, but shoot old ammo at times and it always works so far.

The darn things are all over up here. I have had a few close calls and the ‘blasts’ to the old ticker are gonna get me if a Bear doesn’t one of these days! I carry 100% of the time also, with the appropriate calibers either down into town, or up here in the boonies.

Well, if you get one, get some dry ice and send some meat my way.as far as stouter loads than normal carry, CorBon is my only experience in that caliber.
