My ex-wife and I were taking my kids on a road trip to California and I grabbed my S&W .38 Chief’s Special. She freaked out and said were not taking a loaded gun with us. I said if it’s not loaded are you planning on throwing rocks if the time comes?

As it turns out on the return trip home my Bronco threw the serpentine belt on a lonely stretch of highway. As I was getting out to pop the hood, a car with a couple of shady looking guys began to slow down and stop. I told her to stay in the car with the kids and put the pistol in her lap. As it turned out these guys helped me and we were soon on our way. But my wife was extremely grateful that we had brought my pistol and became a lifetime member of the NRA and strongly pro 2nd Amendment.

I agree. I don’t object to carrying with a round in the chamber with most guns, but I don’t often do so with my S&W Shield. Don’t like the combination of no safety and a trigger pull that is neither long nor hard.

My choice. I live in a very low threat environment.

I have news for you.

There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood.

I live in a rural area, all salt of the earth farmers or children of.

Church on every corner. Until a few years ago, you did not even mow your grass on Sunday for fear of being the subject of next week’s sermon.

But there have been 5 murders since 1970 within a few miles of my house.

Now a few miles is a long way in town, but out here, a mile is next door.

Two were my second cousin and her husband.

There is no safe space.

One of my EDCs is a taurus 856, the rare 6 shot version of the model 85. Absolutely nothing wrong with carrying one. I’d carry a colt detective special if I could afford it.

I’m a cop and i call BS on that. Racking a round so the bad guy can hear may or may not be a deterrent. But if the bad guy(s) are serious, you’ve just given your position away and wih it any suprise you may have had over them. If you’re not comfortable with a round chambered, you either need to train until you are or carry a revolver. Either you are prepared to shoot or you aren’t.

Exactly.

The bad guy is also warned that you will shoot and will probably shoot first.

Also if in the pressure of the event you do not pull the slide all the way back and/or do not allow it to snap foreward with full force, you might still have an empty chamber and that would be fatal.

Pistols are made for the slide to operate as it does when being fired. A wimpy cycle will not reliably pick up the round from the mag.

Wish I could handle a bigger piece, but they don’t fit my small hand, and that hand needs new joints, I’m never going to get. I’m not a candidate because of the OA/OP.

Indeed.

I have a Glock 19 and 43 and carry in an IWB holster and when I am sitting it is pointed at my femoral artery. As such, I carry it in Condition 3.

1911’s and my P238 get carried in Condition 1.

I don’t understand that, most iwb is carried between 3 -5 o’clock position, are you talking about awib or 2o’clock? Also, the trigger is covered once holsterd, what’s the difference if its striker or single action?
