Some of those centipedes I’ve seen on You Tube are downright wicked. Nasty things!

Yes, one of my friends, a school teacher, was driving one of the school buses home from an athletic event one evening. Centipede crawled up his pant leg in the dark and bit him in the vicinity of his you no what. When he started whacking at his pant leg to try get rid of it, it bit him again. The next day he could barely walk, his leg was so swollen.

Last summer my son and his family and I were looking for fossils on the ranch. The sun had just slipped down although you could still see a little and in the low light I spotted on the ledge about shoulder high a huge rattlesnake coiled within striking distance to my daughter-in-law. I yelled her name and grabbed her back and still she nor my son saw the reason for my panic until I pointed it out. I actually did not see the snake so much as I saw the pattern of its markings and fear took over. It still gives me cold chills to think about it. After we calmed down and took a better look at it, we realized it had just eaten a rabbit or something large enough that it was pretty lethargic, fortunately. I will never be out without a light at that hour again.

We were working in New Mexico and got the truck stuck off road. I sent the guys out to look for sticks and branches and stuff to try to get some traction. “Don’t pick up any snakes!” I joked (none of us were from there or used to the snakes). I turned around and 30 feet away was a good-sized stick. Took a few steps and realized it was a big rattle snake stretched out on the sand! Not having been around them I thought it was more cool to watch than something to be afraid of.

Uh, thanks, but I think I will leave that to the experts......

Trined 'erpatologists!

I miss Steve Irwin, a man who'd go bombing along in a 4x4 in the desert until he found a rattlesnake den, stand on the brakes and run over and stick his head in there.

Man knew his reptiles, and seemed very much to live life at it's top.

I had a black lab who just hated snakes. He would come home with his eyes swollen shut and his head as big as a basketball. The vet would give him a shot and a week later he would be right back at it again. He lived to age fourteen. He would leave them dead on the front porch as his trophies.

My Dad taught me how to be aware of rattlesnakes and how to catch them.

We use to bring them and scorpions home. They were not allowed to stay the night...

And maybe milk it for the venom

Venom: the stuff that comes out of the mouths of Pelosi, Schumer and Waters on a daily basis.

Had a guy in RVN got a centipede down the back of his trousers, bashed the hell out of it, and got another bite for each whack. He was one sick dude.

I have killed enough of them to know you are not going to just squash them like a spider. They are tough and strong.

House Centipede (found Worldwide)
The only thing more unnerving than this thing is the “House” part of its name

Here in Alaska, no snakes; miss them some. When I lived back east, I’d catch 5-6 foot black snakes on country roads after a summer rain. I’d walk up slow from behind and grab them behind head with my grip of steel; they’d coil up my arm and I’d make the wife shift the gears, as I drove home. I’d let them go around the house and my dog would kill about every one of them. He’d bite them in half with a shake of his head and you’d see two pieces of snake in the air.

Reading the majority of replies here, I don’t really think I want to be a part of that ping list, after all.

I had a Springer/German Shorthair mix like that in college and just afterwards. Absolutely death on snakes. Smarter than most humans I knew and knew instinctually which she could play with and which to just kill. I miss that dog.
