Times have changed. When I was a kid, a teacher that hot and young having relations with a 17 yo man would never have been found out about by school administrators. It was most 17 & 18 yo HS kids dream, why spoil it?
Seriously, I honestly do not recall any stories like this in print locally before the 1990’s. I’m certain it happened, boys will be boys and girls will be girls.

Why not 13? 12? 10? Why not a 17 year old girl? Why not a 27 year old male teacher and another male student?

Yes times have changed.
Things like this have been going on forever to a smaller degree but it was usually the men wooing the HS girls.
What has changed is the sexual attitudes of the female portion of the younger generations.
Young women feel free to do what they want with whoever they want.
Plus the “never get older” youth culture of today.
Add in social media and the ability of young men to brag and this type of thing can’t possibly stay under cover.
FWIW, the only female teachers I ever had were older women whose windows of desirability were nailed shut permanently.

I believe there was a time when virtually all the grade school teachers were women, and virtually all of the high school teachers were men...or older women.
The introduction of young, attractive women to high school seems to be the ‘x factor’. Who knew - putting horny teenage boys together with pretty young women would result in the occasional scandal.
Such stories used to be dealt with quietly at the local level. It is also certain that female teachers seducing male students was much more rare before the first oral contraceptives hit the market in 1960. The stakes were much higher before then.
Recall the Newt Gingrich relationship with his high school teacher in the early ‘60s.
