EBC-46 is an experimental drug candidate being studied pre-clinically by the Australian company Ecobiotics (specifically its drug discovery subsidiary Qbiotics). It was discovered through an automated screening process of natural products by selecting increasingly purified fractions of plant extracts, based on their ability to produce the desired activity profile. This is then followed by artificial synthesis of the isolated compound to confirm its chemical structure. EBC-46 is a phorbol ester which, along with other related compounds, acts as a protein kinase C regulator.

The initial lead came from observation that marsupials found the seed of Fontainea picrosperma unpalatable due to an inflammatory chemical present in reasonably high concentrations. This was identified as 12-tigloyl-13-(2-methylbutanoyl)-6,7-epoxy-4,5,9,12,13,20-hexahydroxy-1-tiglian-3-one.

EBC-46 is an extract from the blushwood berries of Queensland, Australia.

Researchers say a cure for cancer is 'just around the corner'.

Unfortunately, researchers are no closer to discovering a round corner.

If I had a dime for every time somebody claimed to have cured cancer, I’d have alot of dimes.

Cancer isn’t one thing like chicken pox; there are many different types/kinds of cancer and there is no one special bullet that will ‘cure’ it.

Tyere will never be an official pharma/medical cure for cancer because there is no profit in curing patients.

Only maintaining them as perpetual customers.

Same with cancer charities.

Now the volunteers and family members believe thats what they want. They are the plausible denial front folks big pharma/bi med/big cancer charity use for their own benefit.

I respectfully disagree. Sounds like a liberal reason for not curing any disease. People simply do not know what the cost is to bring a medication to the public.

If I had a dime for every time somebody claimed to have cured cancer, I’d have alot of dimes.

If just one of those claims was actually a cure, I'd have many more living relatives and friends.

There have been hundreds of compounds that gave shown great promise for treating types of cancer that haven't ultimately panned out, as treating cancer under controlled curcumstances isn't actually all that notable.

I'll let Randall Munroe's popular xkcd webcomic bring home the point:

Granted, this compound isn't "common" in the usual sense, but the point stands...

Someone I know who has been dealing with skin cancer was told by an Aussie to use a paste of baking soda and olive oil and put it on the spot a couple times a day. He said that cancer cannot survive in the presence of baking soda.

So he did and said it was no fun as he felt it and it was not pleasant, but said within three weeks the spot was completely gone. Skin as healthy as if it had never had a spot on it.

If just one of those claims was actually a cure, I'd have many more living relatives and friends.

Which is why these kinds of claims are spurious before any kind of clinical trials. Giving false hope in matters of life or death is akin to yelling 'fire' in a crowded theater. JMO.

The cost to bring a new drug to market is now over $2.5 BILLION.

There is no cure because there are many types of cancer.

All due to government.

You miss on huge thing though.

You cant patent something thats a natural substance. All the stuf that works againt cancer are naturally derived substances.

Theres no money in it for them to do this.

Note this particular thing is being done in australia. The usa wil most likely block whatever they come up with. They have done so to things in canada and europe that work.

All cancers have some things in common that are universal weaknesses.
