BBC TV series “City of Vice” which was about the Fielding brothers and the “Bow Street Runners- London’s first (sort of!) police force” had several episodes on this. It had Ian Holm & Ian Glen as Henry (author of Tom Jones!) & John Fielding both early London magistrates.

That series was superb & too short!
