Monday Breitbart News reported that TV viewers are dropping cable subscriptions in droves for cheaper internet platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, posing an existential threat to ESPN. Tuesday an online rating service spelled out exactly just how disastrous that fallout is just in the last month. According to SportsTVRatings.com, the world’s premier global cable and satellite sports television channel, ESPN, lost a stunning 422,000 viewing homes between February and March 2017. Fox Sports 1 didn’t fare very well either losing 77,000 homes.

Except for NFL Draft no reason to watch ESPN until college football kicks off in August.

Pretty much. I only watch the games. I can’t listen to the talking heads on there.

This is pretty much true.

Cable TV is really only a necessity for college football.

You can cut the cord 7 months a year and get a package from the NHL, NBA, MLB and not miss cable if you’re a cord cutting sports fan.

ESPN should hire Bob Costas! Yeah, let’s get this over with.

Am proud to say that I was among the 422,000 last month.

the non athlete/coach commentators used to be deferential to folks that actually played or coached the sport.

Now with Steven A Smith and many others -— they think that they know what it like to play a sport and criticize.

It is completely unwatchable

"Monday Breitbart News reported that TV viewers are dropping cable subscriptions in droves for cheaper internet platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, posing an existential threat to ESPN."

So, wouldn't this threat extend to all cable stations and the cable companies themselves. Not just ESPN?

Unfortunately, Mrs. POF will be the last viewer they switch off when they finally turn out the lights.

ESPN, lost a stunning 422,000 viewing homes between February and March 2017

422,000 lost viewers x $8 dollars per month per viewing home = a loss of $3,376,000 per month going forward.

Drop kicking ESPiN out of our homes is another win for fed up Americans.

Keep politics out of sports. Problem solved.
Politics, LGBT and other activism have plenty of forums, there is no need to infest everything else with the opinions and lectures of the day.

Unless of course the owners, sponsors and players are OK with losing half their audience.

Plenty of other channels taking a hit as well since they are bundled. They are just not getting the press.

I don’t watch sports on tv. Why would I need espn?

Years ago they used to have odd sports on... now if it’s not game time they have some gasbag blathering on about nothing

So, it’s not so much that people are dropping ESPN but that they are dropping Comcast. No wonder, they have priced themselves out of the market. Between internet access and television I spend over $150 a month. I’ve seen that there’s a “youtube TV” coming which will off much of the cable content at a fraction of the price. I hope to make the switch. I don’t need any television, I could live with Netflicks alone, but my wife needs her shows.

They should hire Kapernick for the coup de gras. ESPN is no different than abc cbs NBC MSNBC and CNN-all political all liberal all the time. Maybe they can all don pussy hats and change their name to SJW Sports network.

That’s a good one! It is surprising that ESPN hasn’t yet figured out how disgusted viewers are with their devotion to political correctness and liberal politics. Its a complete turn off, and that’s exactly what viewers are actually doing.
