Why is this the case, and why is it the case year after year? Might it have something to do with these teachings?

“Fight those who do not believe in Allah or the Last Day, and do not forbid what has been forbidden by Allah and his messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, even if they are of the People of the Book, until they pay the jizya with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.” (Qur’an 9:29)

Muhammad said: “Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war… When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them….

If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them. (Sahih Muslim 4294)

“ When President Donald Trump told the Christian Broadcasting Network in January he would give Middle East Christians priority refugee status, he was sharply criticized for religious favoritism and prejudice. Even a few high-profile American Christian leaders questioned his judgment.

Trump’s executive order on refugees did not mention Christians, but referenced religious “minorities.” That means mostly Christians, Shi’a Muslims and Yazidis.

A recent report by Open Door USA, a nonprofit research firm, identifies 2016 as the “worst year” for worldwide Christian persecution since the organization began monitoring human atrocities 25 years ago.

“Christians throughout the world continue to risk imprisonment, loss of home and assets, torture, beheadings, rape and even death as a result of their faith,” the report stated."

When Muslims brand Christians as being “polytheists” they are referring to Christians’ belief in the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The nine Muslim countries are:

Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Eritrea and Yemen.

The non Muslim country is:

North Korea

The Open Doors report found North Korea tops the list as the most dangerous places for Christians. Somalia comes in second, followed by Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Eritrea and Yemen.

Eritrea probably has the largest percentage of Christians of the countries on the list (I don’t know the figure), followed by Syria which is about 10% Christian.

A few years ago we went to Kenya on “safari”.Our guide was James, who told us he was Christian.A very smart and friendly guy we had long talks with him during the long drives to and from Nairobi. He told us in great detail how difficult it was to be Christian in Kenya particularly in the part of the country close to the Somali border,Somalia being 99% moslem.

I just checked the Wikipedia article on Eritrea. It cites a US Department of State estimate that 50% of the population is Christian, and a Pew Research Center estimate that the population is 63% Christian (part Eritrean Orthodox, in union with the Coptic Church, part Catholic, part Lutheran). The government does not allow unrecognized churches to worship freely such as Jehovah’s Witnesses or Seventh-Day Adventists. Most of the rest of the population is Muslim with 2% other.
