Are aliens invading Australia? Facebook erupts with bizarre theories after a huge fireball...

A mystifying video of what looks like a fireball traversing the Tasmanian sky got UFO believers excited, and they weren't swayed by the federal government's explanation.

The federal air navigation services provider Airservices Australia told ABC the fascinating display was simply an aircraft 'as it passed over Australian airspace.'

...

The video, uploaded by a southeastern Tasmania resident to Facebook on Tuesday, shows a light object travelling across clear morning sky.

As the camera zooms in, the object appears to be ablaze, leaving a trail of orange that splits into two tails.

Experts said the contrails created by the aircraft exhaust were backlit by the sunrise, creating the fiery effect.

The problem with the gov’s response is it was STUPID. Why couldn’t they just say space junk or a meteor which is probably what it was ... but an aircraft? Not unless it is ON FIRE!

In December of 2012 there was footage of a “rocket launch” from the pacific off the coast of California that was obviously an aircraft con trail lit by the setting sun. The reflection off the airplane was even argued to be the flame of the rocket.

Sadly, a lot of freepers not only bought into it, but when I told them what it was, I was seriously attecked by quite a few freepers.

Meanwhile, I’ve seen a lot of those “missile launches” here in Flyover Kentucky.

I’ve not seen this video, but it is very possible the government explanation is actually correct.

This is why these UFO conspiracy theories get so much traction. I watched the video and that fireball is definately NOT an aircraft. It's probably a meteoroid or a piece of space junk. So, why lie to your people?

“...but an aircraft? Not unless it is ON FIRE!”

The article says it was moving too slow for space junk or a meteor.

Watch the video. It's not an aircraft unless it's completely engulfed in fire. I'm not saying it's a UFO, just saying that the government's response is stupid and dishonest.

I can’t BELIEVE those no pictures or comments about illegal aliens on this thread.

I guess they don’t have nearly the problem we have.

Still disappointed :)

Too slow to be a meteorite. Seem alike an airliner or similarly sized aircraft to me.

Just the angle of the sun on the contrail. For something similar see the Yosemite Firefall - https://uk.news.yahoo.com/pictures-yosemite-firefall-show-true-151003430.html

” It’s not an aircraft unless it’s completely engulfed in fire.”

Looks to me like a 2-engine jet with the exhaust lit up by the sun, which is below the horizon. It’s like the rocket exhausts seen from LA when Vandenberg launches a missile. If you look away from the airplane, it looks like normal contrails. The audio track sure sounds like a jet.
