My cats do that all the time. Never have understood why they blow their cover.

Same here. Nothing special. Can always tell there’s a bird outside and in view when one of our cats starts to do that.

Perhaps they are trying to mimic the birds. Cats do mimic humans, that is what “meowing” is.

My previous cat Squeek would do that too. During the summer I would let her onto the back deck and she would never leave it, even using the bottom step as a napping place.

With exceptions of course. She would peer thru the railings down into the garden below looking for prey and sure enough, she would pounce down, grab her prize, then immediately run back onto the deck and into the dining room with either voles or baby rabbits.

One day I came out of my den and saw her sitting outside the bathroom, staring in. Sure enough, when I went in to investigate, there was a vole hiding behind the toilet that she had brought in and released.........

Then there was another day when again I was in the den and heard a high pitched squeeling coming from the kitchen. Sure enough, she had caught a baby rabbit and brought it in. Fortunately it wasn't injured and I was able to take it outside and let it go.......

I had to put Squeek down last fall but I have another cat named Cootie. When Spring comes around, I might let her onto the deck but I'm not sure how she will take to it. I'd hate for her to wander off........
