The Conversation: Kaepernick's stand still resonating

It's been roughly six months since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protest went public, and things haven't been the same since. More NFL players decided to follow his lead in bringing attention to the issue of unarmed African-Americans dying at the hands of police. Athletes in other sports also joined in, while police officers, military veterans and ordinary citizens talked about the problem from their own perspectives. There was plenty of dialogue and debate, fury and frustration. But what became clear in all this is something even Kaepernick couldn't have known: The world of sports was the perfect place to ignite a new conversation about race in our society.

Yep, it will continue to resonate and the NFL and ESPN’s P&L will continue to tank until they stop being tie-wearing social justice warriors,

The world of sports was the perfect place to ignite a new conversation about race in our society.

This is why NFL ratings are swirling down the toilet.

WOW. On the NFL website, no less. They have officially grasped this bottle of nitroglycerine with both hands and are running with it.

Being an erstwhile 49er fan, I anticipated going through withdrawal pains last year when I decided not to tune in to any of their games, but the 49ers’ suckfulness made it a bit easier.

May any team who has that America/hating POS on its roster suffer greatly.

What "conversation" are we talking about here? "America sucks" isn't an argument, it's an insult.

Typical liberal. Slaps your face and calls it a "dialogue".

The turkey made it easy for me to ignore an entire season of the NFL, so he succeeded in something.

Sympathy for thug negros getting wasted, not so much.

...the issue of unarmed African-Americans dying at the hands of police.

Bro, are you serious? Does this article really have the imprimatur of the NFL?

Absolutely shocking. The NFL is turning into ESPN. Look for the same results.

Ha Ha! Still resonating all right. In five years there may not be an NFL it is resonating so well.

If by “resonating” they mean a reason not to watch the NFL, then yes.

Being an erstwhile 49er fan ...

I know the Niners were stuck with him last year - if they cut him they would have had to swallow tens of millions of dollars on his contract - but I thought Kaepernick now has a new contract and the Niners can cut him soon. At least I hope that is the case.
The Niners have a long ways to come back, but the first thing they need to do before the healing can start is to excise the cancer tumor.

I truly think that this was a determining factor for some college players on whether or not to declare early for the draft. Probably wont matter this draft but if current trends continue next season there will be millions less available for players. Players had to know that waiting until next year could cost them millions no matter how good they were.

Will athletes support krapperdink’s stand if it cost all of them millions? Probably get a different tune with that.

Most of us who are political junkies go to sports to get away from all of that crap.

If almost all of the pro poly pundits suck at it what makes sportsyappers think that they’ll be any better at the job?
