It’s Official: Los Angeles Traffic is the World’s Worst
Breitbart ^ | 21 Feb 2017 | Jae C. Hong

Los Angeles officially has the worst traffic in the world, a new study has revealed.

Global traffic research firm INRIX reports that Angelenos spent an average of 104 hours stuck in traffic in 2016.

The study also notes that traffic and congestion costs each Los Angeles driver “$2,408 each and the city as a whole $9.6 billion from direct and indirect costs. Direct costs relate to the value of fuel and time wasted, and indirect costs refer to freight and business fees from company vehicles idling in traffic, which are passed on to households through higher prices.”

INRIX noted that Moscow, Russia has the world’s second worst traffic congestion, with commuters in that city spending an average of 91 hours sitting in gridlocked vehicles. Manhattan, New York placed third internationally and second place in America with 89 hours. San Francisco, California placed fourth (83 hours); Bogota, Colombia was fifth (80 hours); and Sao Paulo, Brazil sixth (77 hours).

When stationed in Korea, I decided Seoul was the worst traffic I’d ever seen. But I’m a Buckeye born and bred.

I hate sitting in traffic. When stationed in Germany we’d sit, it seemed forever, in the famous “staus” on the autobahn. Usually there was zero reason for a traffic backup on an autobahn. They just happened. My theory was people rubbernecking at 150 mph slow down to 130, the guy behind brakes a bit, behind him, behind him....an accordion effect takes place and it gets slowed down so much that folks eventually are stopped. Stop a few cars on a plus 120 raceway, and the next thing you know you have a giant stau.

So, my hats off to the residents of LA. They probably are patient, kind-hearted souls who are not given to road rage since this is their life. /sarc.

Any testimonials from LA residents are absoulutely welcome

104 hours stuck in traffic.

How many additional hours spent actually driving in traffic?

That’s over 2.5 workweeks a year stuck in traffic.

I’d be going bonkers.

I do not miss California at all. I was a kid in LA and remember the crazy traffic and can only imagine how awful it is now.

I remember a day trip to the beach took all day. Ugh.

Los Angeles distance is given to you in time.

Every other city. “how far away is the place I want to go?” “8 miles.”

In Los Angeles it’s, “45 minutes.”

It can take that long to go two miles.

What else is new? We put up with this sh*t everyday. I’d rather hear Moochelle obamatard’s talk about school lunches than travel the 405 from LA to the OC during rush hour.

2.5 weeks of good sleep, lost.

104 workout sessions, lost. Or more, depending.

2.5 weeks of time at home, lost.

In suburban Phila, Main Line, where I grew up, we always used time to describe how far one place was from another.

San Francisco, the Gay by the Sea was rated number 4.

The rush to the Gay by the Sea starts at about 3 am and goes until after 8 pm according to a local tv expert last night.

I nominate Atlanta. I have never failed to get stuck in traffic there.

For craziest drivers, the worst I’ve seen is Mexico City. To get anywhere you have to drive aggressively and dare the other guy to hit you. It’s a constant game of chicken with horns.

Just finished a 13 year stint there. I was OK, I never lived more than a couple of miles away from work, and I chose my other trips carefully. But cross-metro trips at rush hour are basically non-existent. If you work on the Westside for example, and someone invites you to dinner or afterwork drinks in Pasadena or Long Beach, much less San Bernadino, it’s not really doable.

Totally.

That’s why I have taken side streets for years.

Now, with Waze I found even more routes I hadn’t considered.

Clearly time for an intervention. Please see a counselor or clergyman as soon as possible. :>)

The 405 is always bad now. Hubby was doing appointments at UCLA to have surgery there. It seemed all his appointments and our drive coincided with morning going to work traffic and then when we left afternoon going home traffic. Then after an out patient surgery they released him just in time to hit after work traffic and we got caught behind 2 accidents at the top of the grapevine. Took us 6 hours to get from UCLA to Bakersfield. Boy was he miserable.
