Ras Al Khaimah Sees Snow; Naturally a Snowman Gets Built
The National ^ | February 5, 2017 | Evelyn Lau

Well here’s something you don’t see every day in the Emirates. This past weekend, we were dealt with some unusual weather with high winds, cold temperatures, and drops of rain appearing.

However, up in Jebal Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, something else happened. Temperatures became so low that the emirate actually saw snow. With temperatures dipping to -1.1 degrees Celsius, could we blame those in the area for not wanting to have a little fun?

In a series of tweets posted on February 3, we are perhaps introduced to the UAE’s most adorable snowman, waving a UAE flag with a Keffiyeh on its head while enjoying his view from the truck.

In another tweet from February 4, we see another group of snowmen created on Mount Jess in RAK.

With snow being such a rare occurrence, it’s nice to see those having fun with it. Who says the UAE doesn’t know how to enjoy a proper snow day?

Finally, some happy faces, looking like real human beings.

Maybe they just need snow more often...

I remember reading a book one time that described cold, gloomy weather as "level-headed weather", with the observation that civil unrest tends to happen in the heat.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was from a documentary called “Meet the Natives” about tribesmen from the South Pacific who go to England and America. When they see snow for the first time in Montana, these grown men freak out and act like little children. One of them even tries to stuff his shirt full of snow so he can take it home to show his fellow tribesmen :)

There’s a sociological theory (surely out of favor nowadays due to PC) that climate is a huge determining factor for economic prosperity and criminality.

The theory goes (in simplified form), if you live closer to the equator where you can get all your daily nourishment by picking fruit from the trees or plucking a few creatures from the sea, you don’t need to develop a strong work ethic to survive. If you live where it’s cold 4 months a year, you need to plan ahead to survive and cannot be as frivolous.

Basically, a human version of the ant and the grasshopper fable.

Absolutely true.

I moved to the south from Northern Maine - you can count yearly good weather weekends (plenty of sunshine, no rain, no snow, no mud season) up there on two hands, usually with a few fingers left over. My lovely and talented wife still pokes fun at me, occasionally, for overworking outside sometimes. Got to get the painting, yardwork, gardening, etc taken care of while the weather is nice, dontcha know.

When we first got married, she also poked at me for laying in a stock of food and water, wood for the fireplace, plenty of propane, and so on "Just in Case". First year we were married, an ice storm more-or-less stranded us for the better part of two weeks. She doesn't poke at me anymore for being prepared.

Isn’t a snowman a “graven image”? Just asking.

Am I the only one who thinks the snow “man” has a face that looks like a camel or kangaroo in the 2nd and 3rd pics?

The middle row with Arabic writing: I am vastly more impressed with “wiring your name in the snow” when you can melt away the areas between letters than just melting the letters.

Miami and Ras Al Khaimah are both 25 degrees North of the Equator. I guess this is global warming’s fault. I am surprised Al Gore was not there but perhaps his fuel guzzling global warming nightmare Gulfstream IV could not land there due to snow on the runway. :) Actually a Gulfstream IV is a beautiful aircraft and its exhaust, CO2 and water vapor, are plant food.

Enough of my sarcasm. I am a geologist and pharmacist. I only deal with scientific method. The “global warmists” are not scientests, they are political activists. That is a polite way of saying they have abandoned their science and have become paid liars.

Geologically and historically we have had many ice ages with very brief interludes of temperate weather. By geologic definition we are still in an ice age as the polar caps have not melted. Our present state of bliss “may only be” a brief warming period within an ice age and this is normal. If it is just a brief period of warming we will soon return to full blown ice age and the glaciers will advance again and it will be geologically very rapid. If we are truly at the end of an ice age the Antarctic Ice Cap and Greenland Ice Cap will melt and sea levels will rise greatly.

Man does not have one damn thing to do with this. Historically speaking Ice Ages were harsh on man and all life. Pray for global warming as we will flourish. Ice Ages kill!

Even if the seas do rise much greater than today it is a gradual process. We will retreat from the shore over thousands of years and the disruption will be minimal. What we have built will have long since been gone before the waters cover them. I hope we are in a warming period that will melt the icecaps as life will flourish. If we are in a brief warming period of an ice age we are in trouble. We could quickly go back into a hard ice age with crop failures throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The crop failures are thousands of years ahead of the glaciers and this can happen quickly. If such is the case Billions will die. Also if this is the case, the Sahara Desert will become a paradise of life.

I will not live to see this but one or the other scenarios I have laid out will happen. Pray for Global Warming as Ice Ages kill.

At the moment, the earth is experiencing a cooler than average phase in it’s geologic history.

Here is a link to an image showing the relationship of CO2 to global temperature. It shows that there’s NO correlation between CO2 and global temperature.

http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/PageMill_Images/image277.gif

For some reason, the link which has worked in the past, is not even being recognizes when I put it into the *To:* field.

It keeps telling me I need to enter a reply.

If someone could try to post the image, I would greatly appreciate it.

They do look odd, but they're the same snowman, just with different guys posing in each picture.
