It is a question that for centuries dog lovers and cat lovers have fought over like, well, cats and dogs: which animal is more intelligent?
Now scientists in Japan appear finally to have settled the matter by proving cats are just as good as their canine counterparts at various memory tests, suggesting they could be equally clever.

Cats are highly territorial. So, if you have one cat in the house, it bonds to a human. Two cats, they work out their territorial disputes and are constantly attuned to them. Hence, the appearance of aloofness.
Dogs are pack animals. They may compete or even combat, but they all heed to the humans.
Of course, cats are way smarter than dogs. They go from feral to house pets in one generation by intellectual adaptation. A house pet can hunt and kill to sustain itself. A dog without a bag of dog food is like a goldfish. And, Dogs evolve by genetics.
Most people don’t realize that cats and dogs have almost the same highly attuned sense of smell except that cats have special receptors to identify other cats’ history and past movements.
