True. When ex presidents travel they call a corporation or billionaire and arrange for free transportation. I noted one news report stating the Carters flew commercial to DC for the inauguration. The Bushes and Clintons arranged for private air service. My respect for Carter when up a notch when I heard the report.
The frequent use of “favors” by ex presidents (private jets, island getaways, private homes, private golf courses) after they leave office makes the current controversy over Trump and the emoluments clause laughable. To insist that Trump is going to be influenced by an Arab sultan spending a few thousand dollars in a hotel, while ignoring Barry Obama and Bill Clinton sponging off billionaires is more leftist hypocrisy. The great thing about the modern presidency is you are given the lifestyle of a billionaire while in office at taxpayer cost. Then upon leaving office you live the same lifestyle courtesy of the payoffs from billionaires you benefited while living on the people’s dime. The same press that is screaming about the faux conflict of interest with Trump’s hotels is silent on the subject of the ex POTUS and FLOTUS jet setting around the world courtesy of the 1%.
The sad thing is the American people continue to pay. Those 8 armored vehicles were flown to Palm Springs for the vacation the Obamas have aborted. The government will now have to rush to transport them to the Virgin Islands for Michelle and to wherever Barack is going (assuming 2 destinations). Secret Service agents and other government paid staff supporting them will also have to scramble. No doubt the taxpayers will pay premium freight charges to ship the vehicles and communication equipment as well as the SS agents. It matters not to the Obamas, the Clintons, the Bushes.
Likely the security bill for the Obamas will be in the tens of millions for the next few years. Although eventually the billionaire and foreign government favors will decline the longer Barack is out of office, they can probably keep that gravy train going a few years by fueling speculation Michelle will run for POTUS in 2020 or 2024.
At least the Secret Service has plenty of experience protecting one jet setting ex president couple (the Clintons) leading separate lives. Being assigned to protect Michelle or Hillary for a Secret Service person must be like being sent to Zimbabwe in the foreign service or Nome, Alaska for a military officer. A big clue your career is over!
