Looking for Coffee Press Made in the USA
Self ^ | 01/17/17 | Zeugma

Posted on 01/17/2017 2:01:25 PM PST by zeugma

Is anything made in the USA anymore?

I'm looking for a coffee press.

Requirements:

  1. 10 cup minimum
  2. Stainless Steel or Glass
  3. Double Walled - to keep the coffee hot
  4. MADE IN USA - NOT China!

I've been searching all over Amazon/Google/Elsewhere, and I'm not finding anything that matches the above requirements. Plenty match on items 1, 2, and 3, but nothing on number 4. I'm astounded that there is literally nothing out there. Lots of folks make these, and some are pretty darned expensive, but when you look at the fine print, or dig through the comments, they ALL end up being sourced in China.

Frankly, I'm surprised. This isn't a particularly high-tech item. I don't even mind paying a premium for an American-made product, but there is literally nothing that fits the bill, at any price.

Pardon me venting my frustrations here on FR. If I thought I could pull off getting this thing manufactured, I'd do a kickstarter campaign or something.

Why not use a regular single wall coffee press and pour the coffee into a thermos?

I give you an A+ for at least trying to purchase American made.

Good going.

We switched from a press to a percolator. Stainless steel, 12-cup model made by Coleman (the camping supply company). You can look at a photo of it on amazon.

Percolating the coffee gets it really hot - a much higher temperature than you can achieve with a press or drip machine. Critics of this method claim it makes the coffee taste burned - we disagree. The process actually brings out the flavor.

After seven minutes of percolation we pour it into a stainless steel thermos.

I actually got that one. It was listed as a different brand but is exactly the same. So far very happy with it. Not sure if mine came from here or oversees though.

Shouldn’t a good French press coffee maker be made in France?

That’s a nice looking press. Next time I drop my glass one, I’m buying that.

Some possibilities.

If you have an Amazon account, you can ask a question to find out if it is made in USA.

Please do vent your frustrations here. We have the next four years to bring back ordinary products to the USA. A very close window although I suspect our next prez will prevail for 8 years!

And pardon me for pointing out that coffee presses are so bleeding French they standup and wave a white flag whenever La Marseillaise is played. The French don't brush their teeth very often so what's a few stuck coffee grains entre amis.If you're having trouble finding one made here that is one reason why.

Sorry, had to vent.

Your post is so interesting - I grew up on perc and still long for it. The smell alone is worth the price of admission. But I use a Mr. Coffee now and while the coffee is perfectly fine it does lack something...

I get frustrated with the Chinese-made crap that we are forced to settle for. The quality stinks. I find that Crate and Barrel, Williams-Sonoma and Table le Sur have some good quality items that are not all made in China. I have a KitchenAid stand mixer that was made in the USA and it has never given me a moment of trouble.

AeroPress is the best general single-cup coffee maker. $30, made in USA.
(Coffee snob here.)

A word of warning: if you use a coffee percolator, make sure the coffee beans are ground at a coarse level. And use a decent percolator filter if necessary.

Done correctly, a percolator made coffee can be quite good.

Try this. I use Chemex 4 cup maker. Is very fast and good. No muddy coffee that a press gives.
