My husband has to get his Driver's License renewed. They gave us a website that lists the required documentation to bring with you. There are three categories to fulfill, and each category lists what would be considered "proof" of your ID. I could hardly believe it. For us, not too much of a hassle, but just the fact you need all this to obtain a Driver's License and there are people that believe you shouldn't have to show any proof of your ID to vote. For your perusal:

Good. Make it even more secure to vote or get welfare.

It is to stop illegals from obtaining a license here. Having worked up in a northern state then it was a joke to get one, but at least here in FL they make it harder for illegals.

These are also the requirements in New Jersey.

Glad to see this is required in other states.

Probably not what you wanted to hear :(

You don’t give that information online do you? Is it a real government website? I have seen from simple search on the internet of many scams claiming to be official site and are scams.

You go in person to get one, why do you apply in your state on line and have it mailed to you?

Shame other states don;t have these rules to obtain one, and stop illegals, etc and the lazy layabouts from getting the privilege to drive legally in the country.

Not completely true. I’ve had a driver’s license in Florida since 1957 and I have to bring all that for renewal.

It must have something to do with incompetent gov’t workers.

I’m not complaining about having to gather the info. Although I’ve been married for 36 years, I still had to show my marriage license last time I renewed.

I’m all for it, just amazed at people who think it’s too oppressive to make someone show ID when they vote. In Florida, when we vote we have to show 2 IDs, voter registration, and photo ID, driver’s license, etc.

Yes, online for renewals of license and vehicle registration IN CALIFORNIA. They mail renewal with a code# for online plus amount being charged. It can be done online in about three minutes-pay with credit card. OR just mail in with the fee and get license or registration in mail. License after a certain age sometimes need to go in for eye test.

It is a federal thing. When I renew (2018) I need my birth certificate, marriage certificate and social security card. (Maybe another document).

When I took my mom to DMV I made a comment about having to get my marriage certificate from the county, but God help me, I haven’t seen my social security card since I was in my 20’s. Back then it was still in my maiden name-never did take care of that, LOL!

DMV clerk said they accept yearly SS statements. YEAH!!! Don’t have to deal with that headache.

The website just tells you what you need. You plug in your name, date of birth, and county, and it pulls up a list of what you need, and what is considered acceptable in each category. To renew your license you have to show up in person every so many years. In the interims, you can renew online.

I do purchase all our registrations for car, boat, fishing license, and the interim DL renewals online. It’s much easier than standing in line at the DMV.

Got a similar notice with the Arkansas DL renewal, but the law for such DL goes into effect in 2019 or 2020.

I thought it ironic that they required so much ID for a DL, but zero ID to vote. But similar logic puts pseudoephedrine behind the counter and requires a DL, wereas regular prescriptions only require me to give them my address (orally, without verification).

I renewed mine around a year ago in DeFuniak Springs, FL.

Ii didn’t bring anything other than my old license. The examniner did look on the computer but required nothing more than my old license.

He took my photo and in a few minutes I had my new license.

Actually, this is required to ensure that your "Photo ID" is valid. FYI..., I have to do this this year myself! Numerous States and localities hand out "Photo IDs" to all who apply (with no documentation!) It is a PIA..., but, a step toward having a modicum of control over those in the USA! Unfortunately, our numerous "Benefit Providing Agencies" do not require such procedures (currently)!

We don’t have to provide this proof every year....I think it’s every 7 years, maybe 10, I really don’t know. But we don’t get a new card every year, I just renew it online, and don’t go into the DMV.

Maybe you just looked like an honest American :)

Well I got my first Florida DL in 1959. I spent a lot of the next 40 years all over the country but I guess he probably knew I was a local.

Florida has been ahead of the curve then by making us show our documents.
Florida has signed up to the Fed act which if you look at your license you will see a gold star.
