Trump vows to provide ‘insurance for everybody’ in Republican health care replacement plan

Speaking with the Washington Post over the weekend, President-elect Donald Trump promised that every American will have health insurance under his Obamacare replacement plan, which is set to be introduced in the openings months of his presidency.

Though he didn’t provide the Post with many details about his plan, Trump said the plan will provide “less expensive and much better” coverage to Americans that Obamacare has “in a much simplified form.”

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump told the Post. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”

“It’s not going to be their plan,” he added of people currently covered under Obamacare. “It’ll be another plan. But they’ll be beautifully covered. I don’t want single-payer. What I do want is to be able to take care of people.”

Trump explained that in addition to providing coverage to every American that needs health insurance, another major part of his plan will be to target pharmaceutical companies, especially those with high drug prices.

It’s always been his position. Plenty of evidence in an earlier thread.

The NeverTrumpers who pointed out that he was not really a Conservative were not wrong.

The simple truth is that there just aren’t enough voters in this country at present willing to vote for the classic Conservative platform.

Trump varied from it in very significant ways, which is why he won. Be prepared to be frustrated when he does un-Conservative things at certain times. And realize that it still beats the alternative.

We could have just bought a policy on the open market for every uninsured individual for a fraction the cost of the Obamacare debacle.

This is one reason I have never been “for” Trump, but, as with all elections, simply voted against a candidate, rather than for one.

My single most important issue was to get the federal government out of health care. As long as the mandate is removed, though, I’ll be happy. My primary goal since Obama was elected has been to get my taxable income as low as humanly possible without impacting my lifestyle too much. They can’t tax income you don’t officially have. And I live in the sticks so I am much less impacted by how the culture is affected by this nonsense.

I don't mind "insurance for everybody" as an option....as long as no one is forced to buy it. Think back to O's primaries against hillary. He said his problem was different from hers because he wouldn't have a mandate.

If DJT's plan has a mandate, he's failed us on this promise.

If you can't pay for it, who does? There can only be one answer and that is, people that can pay, pay for themselves as well as someone else that can't pay. That sounds suspiciously like socialism.

Why can't we just accept that to live free, everyone has to pay their own bills. It's just that simple.

When Obama said ‘millions of Americans don’t have health insurance’ the majority of Americans heard ‘millions of Americans don’t have health care’. When I was young, my parents paid cash for our trips to the Dr for the little things. It was very affordable. They carried Blue Cross/Blue Shield for catastrophic medical situations. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could go back to the simpler days?. Before Obamacare, EVERY AMERICAN had the right to be treated at the ER of every hospital. But the ERs had become overused. I had an argument with an Obama loving cousin about the ERs providing everybody care. Turns out he was angered because they had to sometimes wait hours for their care. All I could say was ‘you are upset that people who aren’t paying for their health care might have to wait for a time before being seen??’ Yep, that was the problem. I sure hope Trump can get this sorted.....it is such a bleeping mess now!

This is what the left doesn’t want to hear. They want to keep saying that Trump wants people to die in the streets without any health insurance.
They will pay no attention.

Realize what he said... insurance for everyone, meaning it will be available and affordable for everyone.. unlike what obama forced on us. Trump didn’t say it was free for everyone... but that it would be available and affordable.
And they will work into this plan, a way for the poor to be covered for needed care and take care of the veterans.

What do you not like about this?

Trump has said from the getgo that he aims to open the market and remove the state line barriers... competition is what works. It won’t work for the government to take it over.

That being said, lets not jump to conclusions. We have Ferrari’s for everyone also, as long as you can pay for one.

The path of least resistance is Single Payer/Federal Government. If it’s not Trump it will be the next guy.

The only coherent solutions are two. The first is people exercise responsibility consistently and all but the very poorest set a high consumption priority on having health insurance covered. The second is for the government to buy everything and tax (some of) the people to pay for it.

Which one do you think will win an election in this country?

That’s nice-as long as Hussein doesn’t start World War 2-1/2 before he gets tossed.

Me neither. But I’m patient.

I just don’t see Trump and his team coming up with either Obamacare 2.0 or even Obamacare-Lite. He needs to carve out the precondition folks and then just let the Health Insurance Industry offer up enough options, without any government imposed requirements, to allow everyone to find a plan that fits their budget.

People who pay more for their coverage will get better healthcare. That’s the way it works with automobiles and homes and food and clothes and TVs and everything else. If we end end up with one size fits all then the funding will come the taxpayers and Obama and the Dems will have won.

His position sounds very much like Milton Friedman’s.

It’s not hard core every man for himself rugged individualism.

But I don’t have a problem with it. It’s the right thing to do.

Get ready. We’re going to get single payer major medical (catastrophic).
