I’m divided. I do support states rights and I do see elections as a state issue, so I do think Obama is out of line, as usual.
But I also do want to see photo IDs required in elections, and purple ink, and voter roll purges, and mandatory penalties for voter fraud.
Voter ID is a states’ issue. The Federal gov’t needs to stay out of it.
Polls to be open on the first Saturday, Sunday & Monday after the first Monday in November - 7 am to 7 pm in every state.
Here we have books with registration signatures and I have to sign in. We need something similar for every state.

The Congress passes a law, and Trump signs it, which indicates that in a representative republic such as ours, it is utterly critical that the people of the nation have confidence in the integrity of the electoral process. A critical part of that is to make sure that:
1) Only those eligible to cast ballots are permitted to do so.
2) The person showing up at the polls to vote is ACTUALLY the person registered to do so; and
3) That each eligible voter only votes once in each election.
Mandate such things as the purging of dead people off of voter rolls within a few days of their death (EASY to do, Social Security gets this information from each county or state health department as a death certificate is produced), purging a voter from his/her old state when they show up to get a drivers license in their new state; coordinating with the INS (or whatever it is called these days) to make sure that no non-citizens can even register, etc., etc. THEN the feds have to pay the states back whatever the costs associated may be.
This will, I believe, pass Constitutional muster - it is something that deals with interstate commerce (people move, and immigrants come in from other nations and also move around the nation), but leaves up to the states who is eligible in their own jurisdiction. Also, the feds won’t be seeing, let alone touching, any voter rolls, inspecting IDs, etc.

Of course, that is the last thing Obunghole had in mind with this power grab.
