Burger King released a statement on Tuesday announcing plans to change its name to Burguer King in Spain after suffering years of mispronunciation. The fast-food chain explained that it had decided "to turn the situation around and be the ones to make the change"
In this way, at long last, the name of the brand will be written as it is pronounced.
The brand has decided to castellanize its name to get closer to the consumers in the Spanish market From now on Burger will be written with an added u; Burguer, the statement send out on Tuesday morning explained.
Of course, the story provoked a furore in Spain, after being picked up by Spanish news agency Europa Press and published across diverse media outlets.
But it turns out the statement was erroneously released a day early and was meant to be a joke for the morning of December 28th, which is El Día de los Inocentes or Spains version of April Fools Day.
Just call it Taco Bell.
Can they pronounce THAT?
Press 1 for Burger King
Press 2....
Perhaps if they spelled it right. Do they have the Royal with Cheese?
In other news, italian cajun food lovers have renamed their favorite eating spot to pope yes! Louisiana style a papal fries....
Home of the King Sized Boogers?
Lol
If you have never heard a Spanish speaker say Burger King
it really does sound like they are saying Booger King
I about died laughing the first time I heard it .
There is a better one though ...
ask a Spanish speaking person to say yellow sheets
(it sounds like they are saying jello sh*ts *=i )
They would be wondering why you wanted beautiful heels on your shoes.
Funny.
My daughter and I were in Punta Cana a while back looking for adventure and an attendant recommended going on “boogie” rides. It took us a while to figure out he was talking about dune buggies.
I’m fluent in Spanish and still had a language barrier.
In Spanish all over the world “g” followed by “e” or “i” is a soft g sound (similiar to “h” in English. The same rule for “c”.
In Spanish the rules are the rules, not like the chaotic English language.
Yes! Also “beach” sounds more like “b*tch.” And estrawberry. Lol lol
There’s a place around here called El Rey del Taco. Why not El Rey de la Hamburguesa?
Oh yeah, and “orange jews.”
Something wrong with “Hamburguesa Rey?”
red
lol I forgot all about the beach and the strawberries .
To my grandmother yellow sheets were sunny colored bed linens. I couldn’t trick her into saying yellow sheets .
There used to be an eatery in Old Town San Diego, Calif. called Hamburguesa that served great burgers and Mexican food.
MAYONNAISE 515
MAYONNAISE 515
Yes, its not good Spanish. El Rey de la Hamburguesa would be proper.
My grandson calls it the ‘King of Burgers’
