Now how can he NOT KNOW how kooky his wife is?

When I was younger, I stayed with some CRAZY gals because they were so hot.

This gal ain’t.

Not that it’s a good reason anyway. :)

Maybe he wants nothing to do with the whole situation?

But wouldn’t he know the character of his Ex and go to bat for her?

“When I was younger, I stayed with some CRAZY gals because they were so hot.”

Old saying: Never sleep with anyone crazier than yourself.

“But wouldn’t he know the character of his Ex and go to bat for her?”

On the contrary, he lets her spend 88 days in jail and then she has to post $1M bail!?!? Knowing the whole time who he’s married to?! He’s federal law enforcement, for goodness sakes!!

No mention in the story about what he thinks or even if they’re still married, but they call her the wife.

That’s the state of journalism these days.

It can be done very easily, but it won’t fool a real forensic investigation, just a casual inspection.

WELL WHAT THE HELL?!?!?

Shouldn’t one have been involved right away or at least within a MONTH so this lady didn’t have to rot in jail?

Right? Awfully written!!

And she’s being charged with kidnapping as a result of THIS incident, according to the article.

WHO did she kidnap??

Couldn’t they have checked Hadley’s computer to see if she really sent it?

Hadley asked them to check her computer. They didn't. The father offered to have them check his and her computer. They didn't.

The LEO's were looking out for Diaz the Marshall. They'll be sorry. They will have to pay big time when she sues them. Actually taxpayers will be paying.

Not one of the LEO's stopped to think about the house that Hadley and Diaz bought together and how Diaz wouldn't pay any of the mortgage. The guy got his girlfriend to do the dirty work and is claiming he knew nothing about it. Liar.

That wouldn’t prove anything because the emails could be sent from any computer, like a work computer, a friend’s computer, or her phone. Really in cases like this you need to get the information from the internet provider, because they keep records of the IP addresses that the mail was sent from.

This article was written terribly.

It stated that she made it look like it came from Hadley’s computer.

From what you’re telling me, it could have come from many computers, am I understanding that right?

This is beginning to sound like a good film noir :)

Have to get to typing the script!

you’re right. He’s a piece of garbage

And it’s disgusting what LEO did.

The comments from the investigator in the story make it seem like there was some delay in them getting that info:

“The problem was we couldn’t get to the [Internet Protocol] addresses.”

Zimmer said the breakthrough in the case came around September, when investigators were able to uncover the real IP addresses behind the Craigslist ads and the harassing emails Diaz was receiving. He said some had originated at Diaz’s condo and her father’s home.

“That was the real aha moment,” he said.

So they may have requested the information from the ISP and Craigslist but didn’t get a response until 3 months after they had arrested her. I’ve seen other cases similar to this with internet trolls who frame people for stalking, harassment, etc. They are often able to get people arrested because the police only need “probable cause” to make the arrest, and just the troll or hoaxer making the complaint and presenting emails that seem to come from the accused is enough for probable cause.

I can see why police are in a rush to arrest stalkers, after all, if they get the report and don’t do that, then they get blamed if the stalker escalates and kills the person. The downside is that innocent people can get locked up and held until the police get their hands on the evidence they would need to push for a conviction and see that it doesn’t add up. It’s basically a new evolution of “swatting” that is bound to become more common.

If you want to see people that are really sophisticated with this tactic, look into a troll named “Sarah Afshar”. She has gotten people arrested by faking evidence that they were stalking her, and now she collaborates with another woman to try and get innocent people arrested for purportedly stalking her daughter to death somehow (the daughter died of a drug overdose alone in her bedroom). There is a whole gang of trolls that work under her using these kinds of tactics, so if you google search them, you have to wade through 20 fake websites they build to promote themselves to find one critical website that talks about what they are really up to.

Right. What most likely happened is they “spoofed” the email. This means, when you get the email in your inbox, the sender’s name and email address appear to come from someone other than the person who sent them.

That really doesn’t tell you anything about what computer they were sent from. It’s just a way to forge what email account sent the email.

that is pretty terrifying. I’m not scared of having to spend six months in jail. I AM scared of being bubba’s boyfriend.

and of course the ruined career and everything that goes with it. What a disgusting thing to do to somebody.
