When officers arrived at Angela Diaz’s condo last June in response to her 911 call, police say, they found her in tears, with a ripped shirt and red marks on her neck. A man had just tried to rape her in her garage, she said.
Anaheim police believed this was the gruesome result of a recent Craigslist ad, in which someone had posed as Diaz and invited men to visit her condo to participate in her “rape fantasy” encounters, even if she screamed and fought back.
Detectives became convinced the electronic trail led to her husband’s ex-fiancee, Michelle Hadley, who soon faced 10 felony charges and the possibility of life in prison.
It was a bizarre enough case, but on Monday it took an even stranger turn: Authorities say they were fooled.

What a sad situation for Hadley. Hopefully she can get on with her life. She might have to change her name, just so she is not cast forever as a villain by web browsers, etc.

Regardless of how it all plays out, anybody who places one of these types of ads should be convicted of attempted murder and put in prison for life without the possibility of parole.
The fact they gave that one woman only a few years is outrageous.
Couldn’t they have checked Hadley’s computer to see if she really sent it?
Along with attempting to frame Hadley, Diaz is accused of faking a pregnancy and cervical cancer, forging a check, posing as an attorney and as two of her husband’s ex-girlfriends, and forging doctors’ notes...

Yes, it can be done but there are more things to consider than spoofed email headers, etc.
All of those spoofed emails and CL ads used in this scheme uses IP addresses. These can be traced back to the internet provider where they originated from, which leads to at minimum a general location or often an exact location. She had her footprints planned, the problem was she was stepping around her backyard literally and thankfully got busted.

When the Rats want info under the FOIA, I would pick one RAT instance where they slow-walked it and slow-walk it according to that one instance. I would apply the myriad Rat requests just as they did to us. F-em!!
