FORT HOOD A GoFundMe page is making its way through social media about a soldier whose vehicle was vandalized just days before Christmas.
According to the page, the vehicle was spray-painted Dec. 23 with a racial epithet against African-Americans, telling him to die. All four of the soldiers tires were slashed, and the vehicle was broken into; gasoline was poured over the interior.
The event happened on Fort Hood at the 3rd Cavalry Regiments headquarters parking lot, said Staff Sgt. Jonathan Charlot, the soldier who owns the vehicle, a 2009 Nissan Sentra.
Its disheartening, if you will, Charlot said of the incident. Its an older car and was having some issues, so it had been sitting there for a while.
Charlot said he had been getting ready to leave for his hometown of Houston for the Christmas holiday when he received the call about his car. He had originally thought the vandalism would be something simple juvenile humor such as drawing body parts all over until he saw what was written on the vehicle.
It makes me feel disgruntled, unwanted that the America I love isnt the same anymore, he said.
Fort Hoods Criminal Investigation Division still has the vehicle while the incident is under investigation, he said. The GoFundMe page has comments from people offering to refurbish the vehicle for free.
John Miller, a spokesman for III Corps and Fort Hood, confirmed that CID is investigating the case.
The page was started by one of the soldiers friends and has already raised nearly $4,000 of a $10,000 goal since it launched Dec. 26.
My best friend is a soldier in the U.S. Army and has worked extremely hard to protect our freedom, posted John Martinez on the page. My best friend is one of the kindest and most generous people you will ever meet.
Martinez, who started the page, said his friend has deployed to the Middle East and uses his time to raise money for orphanages and homeless shelters to buy presents during Christmas.
Although racism still exists in this country, I never thought I would realize this kind of hatred personally, Martinez said. I cant imagine the emotions my best friend is experiencing, but my hope is to raise enough money for him to purchase a new vehicle since his insurance will not cover such an incident.
I wonder what CID will find.
Nostradamus not needed to see who’s gonna get arrested for this crime.
Hell, you don’t even need Dionne Warwick’s psychic friends to see what’s coming.
Most parking lots have security cameras.
#fakedhatecrimesmatter
Someone wanted a new car.
“Nostradamus not needed to see whos gonna get arrested for this crime.
Hell, you dont even need Dionne Warwicks psychic friends to see whats coming.”
Indeed true. No doubt, no doubt whatsoever, that the perp is a liberal.
A slimy, sleazy, lying, low-T, marshmallow major liberal.
But then, I repeat myself.
Another hoax?
These usually are.
I am a bit jaded about this type of hate crime myself.
So who would know that it belongs to a black person, genius?
If it had been a new vehicle, then an enraged ex-girlfriend or her new boyfriend might be a remote possibility ... but this? Did it himself.
Good point. I bet he had it fully insured.
Suspiciously suspicious.
Probably signed up for the 150% value replacement deal at Liberty Mutual, just a couple weeks before it was vandalized.
He wants a new car.
If he had a collision/comprehensive policy on a vehicle that’s paid for and not in constant use, that’s a sure sign he did it, because this is a total waste of money for normal people. If he still had a loan on it, there’s not a chance in the world that the actual cash value is as much as the debt.
I used to work for an insurance company.
Oh, it’s a GoFundMe. He’s just trying to get donations.
A black director at a previous employer vandalized his own car in the company lot in an attempt to gain leverage over the company and secure his position. He was grossly incompetent in his day to day work.
He wasn’t caught in the act, but bragged about the act several years later within earshot of another employee, which out drinking.
It eventually became well known by all employees. Nothing was done.
So somebody vandalized an inoperative vehicle?
WOW! Why would anyone do that? </Rhetorical.Question>
The headquarters parking lot for a major command like 3rd Cav isn’t going to be an isolated area. There would have been people around nearly all the time.
I will say, though, that it is entirely possible that the vandal is some lower-rank enlisted who is a subordinate of the SSG victim. SSG is generally a squad-leader or platoon leader rank, and people within a unit generally know who a given vehicle belongs to. Someone in the ranks who got stepped on, justified or not, by the SSG could very well have done this as revenge. It might not even be someone directly under the SSG; it could just be someone who ended up on a work detail with him, or felt that the SSG had been overly strict about some aspect of discipline. Combine that with the more-aggressive nature of a spear-tip unit like a Cav unit, plus a lower legal drinking age (on base), and it’s very easy to see this as “let’s go f@#% up that Sergeant’s car for hassling us”.
Actually it is pretty slick that his friend started the GoFundMe appeal.
The good Sergeant didn’t start it, so when he is busted he can deny any fraud from the money raising angle. And the friend is off the hook because he “thought” this really happened.
Couple of Barracks Lawyers here.
