Dell still has some W7 laptops? I am leary of the refurb and corporate return stuff I see advertised,

Would prefer new or at least truly a refurb straight from the factory.

It IS a step backwards.

Having to download crap to watch a video?

DBL, K5..I dont know what the ### all these apps are bringing to my laptop and you dont know what’s being sneaked into your phone.

Windows 7 for me.

If there’s a better OS, I’ll get it next time.

There’s also rumors Windows 10 wants to start charging a few bucks to use it.

Have an Android - Samsung Galaxy 6s or whatever; not the latest. Have Verizon as the carrier. Not my choice - it's a work phone. It did system updates 4 times the week before Christmas. Each time it is out of commission for about 20 minutes. Three days in a row, skipped a day, then did it again. So Microsoft isn't the only one doing this insane silliness.

After switching my main home systems to Linux, had forgotten how annoying that eternal update cycle is. With my Linux (Fedora) systems, I can turn off auto-updates then I manually kick off an update once a month or two some Fri or Sat nite before bedding down.

It is fair to say that there are a lot of Windows users who really like Win10. More power to them.

I tried Win10 out on my primary laptop. Fortunately, I installed it on a new hard drive and was able to just swap the original back in after a month of nearly constant difficulties. I also have a “convertible” tablet with a keyboard which came with Win10 installed. It causes a certain amount of frustration every time I try to use it, but it was only $99 and it does basically what I bought it for. So I have no real complaints.

It is no surprise to me that Microsoft had to basically resort to tricking people into upgrading. It was built for something other than helping people be productive.

weirdly enough, the 15” ones are less expensive than the 14” inch ones right now.

these are fine laptops, btw. I’ve bought several for clients.

i5 CPU is more than most people need. real speed comes from the HD; 7200rpm .5-1GTB. even better, buy a samsung evo 850 .5TB SSD and clone the dell one onto that and then put the SSD into the laptop.

4GB is good. if you need more, buy samsung memory sticks off on amazon and put them in yourself.

After posting my reply, looked around and found this:

Intel® Core™ i3-6100U Processor (3M Cache, 2.30 GHz)

Mostly want a newer laptop with Win 7 to backup my ancient Dell laptop with Xp. It still works, but slow as hell. Wife has a 3150 laptop with Win 8 that I hate to "help" her with. Deems a nice machine other than the memory card reader going Tango uniform.

Seems fast enough, but I have this desktop for speed if I am doing CAD.
