I grew up on and still live on that same street. Around the time of Bill’s youngest brothers, who were not the most productive teenagers. But the family was fun. There were lots of very large Irish and Italian families in Wilmette. We had 5 kids and there were 10 next door. East Wilmette was a great Catholic neighborhood that produced several celebrities. And even some great conservatives like Steve Moore who grew up a few blocks north. And some not so great Dems like Rahm Emanuel who grew up a few blocks west in the Jewish side of Wilmette.

“I live is a rough neighborhood. The apartment complex I live in advertises a short RUN to the subway system.” (I think I got that right). Dangerfield was a funny man.

" I doubt that many young people have seen it."

I was watching Saint Vincent with some youngin's about 2 weeks ago, and one says, isn't he the guy in the golfing movie with the gofer?

She noted she watched it with her dad (it was one of his favorites) and thought it was funny. So by osmosis or whatever, they are getting exposed to Bill Murray.

BTW, Saint Vincent is a must see.

The movie wasn’t popular in the theater. It got its cult status from HBO and the like where it played multiple times a day. People started getting that type of humor after immersion. The best thing to do is ignore the plot about Danny Noonan getting a scholarship and concentrate on Murray, Dangerfield, and to a lesser extent Chase and Ted Knight (Dangerfield’s foil )

Gunga gunga galunga.

Dangerfield’s jokes don’t have to be hilarious. His impeccable timing and face mugging make Rodney. He was the best.

Still waiting for the “Meatballs” themed restaurant.

Is that a fact, Jack?

I knew a flight attendant who told me that Rodney was on her flights a couple of times. She said when she first met him it was almost unsettling (not in a bad way) because he was NOTHING like his comedy routine. Very nice, very polite and friendly. The difference was remarkable, according to her.

Murray was only on the set for his scenes. The editing created a movie completely different than the original storyline. The actor who played Spaulding dated the producer for the Howie Carr Show. He said Ted Knight was the best guy on the set. All the others were jerks or aloof. Rodney ain’t Rodney when the cameras are off.

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not, but my 2 sons and I know every word of this movie. Bless their hearts, I was widowed when they were 10 and 8, and they were raised watching this stuff. They’re twisted in a good way. :-)

When I go there, I think I’ll order a hamburger — no — a cheesburger. I’ll order a hot dog . . . a milkshake . . . . french-fries . . .
