•Margin growth continued but at nearly 21 times this year's earnings, the stock is way too expensive.
Cracker Barrel (NASDAQ:CBRL) has long been an example for others in the restaurant sector. The company has bucked weak trends in casual dining and its retail stores have helped shoulder the burden as well. CBRL's unique model has worked extremely well over the past few years and it pays a sizable dividend to boot. After a nice Q1 report, the stock is hitting new highs again but with the valuation becoming a concern, how much further can CBRL go?

The restaurant appeals to Americans. It has good food at decent prices in a clean and warm atmosphere. The service is generally very good.
My wife and I had breakfast there yesterday. They sat us right by the fire, and the food was hot, plentiful, and very good.
Also, the company seems to not care about political correct nonsense. In the Cracker Barrel store, we say Christmas and Hanukkah items galore. We also saw signs for sale such as "Christ is Born" or "He is the Reason for the Season."
If they served wine, it would be darn near perfect.
All the attendees at Trump rallies needed a place to eat. No. Seriously, your points are well taken. Their breakfasts are great. I find their dinner menu blah with small portions. But even here in Jersey the places are packed. So people like the good value in a nostalgic setting plus the shopping is a brilliant idea when u are waiting on a table.
Agree 100%. Good food, good service, reasonable prices. Their pancakes are the best!
Wine.. works for me. But they would have to limit themselves to Boone’s Farm to go with the grits!
You can use freshly peeled potatoes, but squeeze as much water out of them after you grate them as you can.
The recipe uses condensed Campell's Cream of Chicken soup. For chefs out there, I know it sounds like sacrelidge, but trust me - this is a very tasty and good recipe. If you serve it, it will be gone. I like to make it more crispy, so you can cook it on convection oven and then broil it for a couple of minutes as well.
Ingredients
2 pounds frozen hash browns, thawed
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 can (10.75 ounces) cream of chicken soup
1 pint sour cream
1/2 cup onion, chopped
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Two words: Reuben sandwiches.
I don’t even like rye bread, but somehow, a Reuben is pure magic.
Oh, the little shop next to the restaurant is decent, too.
Perhaps they are a takeover target.
The prices are reasonable. There is room enough for families to gather and for GRANDPA and GRANDPA to buy a present or two for the GRANDKIDS on the way out.
I was going to say, for us northerners it’s about the only place we can get grits, which are useful for traction purposes under the car wheels when there are icy roads. I realize some do consider them a food source, but then again, only with “something” added...shrimp and grits, grits and gravy, grits with cheese, salt and pepper, sugar, ketchup, etc. So it’s more like a substrate upon which to put something else that is actually edible. Kind of like a container. We prefer our corn un-gritty.

I have eaten at many Jersey diners. They mostly are very good. But normally the breakfast food is nothing I could not make myself, but it's fun to go out.
I have several local diner hash brown recipes. The basics are potatoes, onions, butter (sometimes lard....yea...I know), salt and pepper - all cooked on a large and very hot griddle. The secret is crisping the potatoes and onions to a golden brown without burning them.
Their fried catfish is the best. Mr. GG2 loves the fried chicken.
When we travel we always make it a point to stop at any Cracker Barrel along the way. A very good business model. Clean and welcoming. Always good food and service. We never leave without buying something from their “store”. I just wish there was one located close to our home....
Why? Good ol’ American food. Next question.
I used to live in Charleston South Carolina. I became a shrimp and grits fanatic.
That’s my recipe, although I use cream of mushroom soup. It’s amazing with O’Brien hash browns too if you like peppers...adds a great color and flavor.
MSNBC was proud to report that Trump won 76% of counties with a Cracker Barrel and 22% of counties with a Whole Foods grocery store. This is code for “the dumb people in America voted for Trump and us smart people get a pass for being wrong.”
I wonder if Cracker Barrel is seeing a surge of prideful visits the same way people helped Chick Fila have record profits after the liberal boycott because the religious owner expressed conservative opinions on marriage in an interview with a religious publication.
Starch lovers special. Dompings, mashed taters and mac and cheese. ( the large pieces of chicken are under the dumplings
I prefer the fantastically magnificent Cracker Barrel chicken and dumplings with green beans and maybe slaw or okra. They sell two different items on the menu. Don't get the large size because it is enough for two or three folks
