This could explain why I have never liked the tramp ballad “Gentle On My Mind”.

Beyond a certain age an unmarried woman who even remotely suspects that she was rejected turns into an implacable harridan.
Very many of them are extremely dangerous.

This just happened to a friend of mine. He stupidly takes in homeless people and tries to help them. He had to evict one, and the guy burned his house down to the ground.
Not just any house. The owner was an expert woodcarver and the house was a 23 year project filled with carved wood beams featuring animals and humans. 3 stories worth.
Nothing left but a few sticks and only insured for enough to cover the mortgage.
The arsonist (in jail now)almost burned out the neighbors as this happened in a steep, wooded mountain area.
Most homeless people have a mental illness and one can not trust them to make rational choices.

Last summer, a woman was killed in Minneapolis by the same homeless guy she gave refuge to in her apartment. This lady was an out and out liberal and she had good intentions - but it cost her life. May she rest in peace for trying to help out the poor - but as they say, no good deed goes unpunished.

He had some minor sucess back in the late 1980s, IIRC.
