By early Sunday morning, forward progress on a wildfire that erupted Saturday at around 6 p.m. had stopped and residents in Ramsey and Carr canyons were no longer being warned they might have to evacuate.

The Ramsey Canyon Fire rallied firefighters from Fry, Palominas, Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, the U.S. Forest Service and inmates from the Department of Corrections.

The sizable response brought the blaze under control after about five hours Saturday night and Sunday morning.

U.S. Forest Services media spokesperson Heidi Schweigel issued a release Sunday that stated the fire appears to have started in Carr Canyon near a lower campground, but no exact cause has been determined.

The fire consumed about 50 acres and crews worked all night cutting lines and managing roll out fires as they occurred along a distinctive fire line.

Sunday afternoon, Carr Canyon Road remained closed to traffic.

The wildfire was clearly visible Saturday night for motorists driving on Highway 92 south of Sierra Vista.

No structures and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Also visible from I-10, 30 miles away. They say it covered 20 acres, but it looked a lot bigger than that to me...
