Read it—loved it—often quote it.

So much written about Bonhoeffer would lead one to believe he was a liberal theologian when in reality he was a Biblical strict constructionist and he hated liberal theology as manifested in Manhattan’s Union Theological Seminary. Metaxas shows us the true Bonhoeffer.

I will read this. I make a point to listen to him most morning with his short minute long “Break point” discussion. They are always insightful, and usually spot on.

One thing Bonhoeffer came to realize is that the USA’s religious freedom was far better than the state-sponsored Churches in Europe. He saw the effects of what happened when the NAZIs took over the government and made the “German Christian Church” (the name for the NAZI-controlled and racist church)the master of all the Lutheran ministers. The state controlled their pay, pensions, employment, and ultimately their lives. I wish people would keep this in mind when they see what Putin is doing with his state-controlled church. Those Christians who wish to follow Christ’s teachings vice Putin’s ukases will be in a position like that which Bonhoeffer.

If you have not heard Eric Metaxas 2012 prayer breakfast speech, everyone should. The best part of the speech is that he precedes Obama and Metaxas comments regarding the President are spot on. It is almost as if he had a copy of Obama's speech and was shooting it full of holes.

I can only answer generally, not having read it, but this may be helpful to you: having read five other Metaxas works, I've found everything he's written to be superb. I'd not heard of the one you're inquiring about, so I'm now interested to investigate it.
