Don’t disrespect it around me.
I’m also with Scalia on this one.
But, it won’t prevent me from laughing when some dumbass lighting the flag on fire accidentally sets himself on fire, too.
One of the many principles represented by our flag is the right of political dissent without government retribution, otherwise known as Free Speech. A right so important to a free nation it was included in the First Amendment.
How can we support a law infringing upon that right? We would be supporting the same thing the left has done with the Religious Clause.
No thank you.
I don’t like it, but I respect our Constitution and the rights it guarantees.
Trampling the U.S. flag dishonors those who gave their all for the cause of FREEDOM and LIBERTY.
Burning my flag just tells me that, regardless of what you may claim to be “protesting”, you are just another commie traitor, useful idiot and I don’t need to pay attention to anything you say.
With that logic, any speech that causes violence could be outlawed. In other words, protests outside abortion clinics can be outlawed if it causes a Planned Parenthood supporter to go nuts & attack a pro-lifer.
>Exactly. Burn a rainbow flag at a gay parade. This stuff has to stop.
Have we started burning korans and other islamo filth near mosques yet? Maybe it’s time to start.
I’m with you and Scalia, RC.
The solution is very simple. Pass a law that no one can burn ANYTHING in public except the fire department.
As for stomping on the flag, I haven’t come up with anything yet.
Sad that this needs to even be said. Where were parents, etc?
Do not disrespect it in PUBLIC?
You’ll have to go crazy then.....To change it, since it has been ruled free speech, you would have to amend the first amendment to the constitution......
Congress can’t pass a law nor can the Supreme Court be overturned.....
Consequently, you would have to define what free speech is.....
Do you want our collective moronic leadship diving into that pool?
Anyone desecrating the American Flag should be shot on the spot.
You omitted the rest of the clause:
"...with the primary purpose and intent to incite or produce imminent violence or a breach of the peace..."
Why?
A subsequent decision of the Supreme Court can overturn a previous decision. And it is not necessary to amend the Constitution.
Technically yes, reality no.....
Aside from the fact that the USC rarely, if ever, overturn a previous opinion.....as previously stated, both conservative and liberal judges agreed on this issue.....
IMHO, the flag issue is a small issue compared to all the other problems that need immediate resolution....
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind if the USC reversed its decision but there are bigger problems that require all of our attention then a bunch of pissant, crybaby liberals burning the flag......
“Go to France and start insisting that people speak English.”
hmmm, France is a tourist country. And English is the tourist language, so no problem here.
But on the other hand, I don’t remember seeing anyone not standing up when we sing the Marseillaise, let alone kneeing. Were I a child or even an adolescent, my parents would pull me up by the ears.
