“If you spend the money for rapid charge, you can get to 60% or so in five or ten minutes.”
Yeah, but you’ll kill that expensive battery a LOT quicker, too.
Depends upon the type of battery. Aftermarket conversions typically use a different sort of li ion battery pack, most popular is LiFePo4, because it isn’t volatile, doesn’t need the cooling, just not a hazard because it won’t explode or catch fire. Others are more accommodating to rapid charge.
I wouldn’t be surprised but I’m not aware of one, the original Corvair air-cooled flat six is quite capable of producing some impressive horsepower with the right mods.
I am aware of several 500 hp water-cooled V8 conversions, though. Mostly drag racers, I’d hate to contend with that much weight slung out over the rear on curves.
Porshe-engined Corvairs have been done, at least with a Porsche 933 engine.
One got a lot of press a few years ago:

I was at a local auction in Boise, ID well over 15 years ago, and some kid had shoe-horned a 455 with FWD transaxle into the back of the Corvair. He put a ton of work and money into it, and then sent it across the stage with no reserve. I think it went for about $1,800. Kid was devastated.
Watch “Roadkill” on youtube, they are big mopar fans. They changed my mind about mopar, I’d always been a Cheby man. Though I did have a dodge dart with a push button transmission, torsion bar springs and a 6 banger for a while.
Ah. The perennial slant 6. We have two with two, 225cu in ones with 2 bbl carbs.
IIRC, there were two radiators with electric fans pulling in air down from the louvered rear cover... But it's been a long time.
