Texans love high school football and pump exorbitant amounts of taxpayer dollars into funding NFL-style stadiums, but now one school boasts a brand new $1.35 million state-of-the-art jumbotron system, only it remains unclear how the district plans to pay for it.

OOPS! That is a whole lotta candy bars sales.
Property taxes.
Bling bling
only it remains unclear how the district plans to pay for it.
What is wrong with a Special Assessment on the Wages and Salaries of SCHOOL DISTRICT EMPLOYEES????
will be happy when this whole football thing dies out...
Otherwise, how did civilization make it this far without a Dumbotron in our high schools?
In 1916 7th graders could read and write and do math. Today they can barely do any of those thing.
But this High School can take comfort knowing they have a over sized insanely expensive Lite Brite..?
We used to be an advanced society..?
Local college got a free video board - the company that installs the board is really an advertising company, and plans to make a profit selling ad space during the games.
So, the college gets a free board, and not much else.
In the case of the OP, the school may actually get a revenue stream, if done right.
This falls under a corollary to my “No publicly funded sports stadiums” policy.
The students can play high school football in an empty field with bleachers like they did 50 years ago. High school footballs is all too often just a very expensive fantasy football league for a few fat old boosters. Let them pay for it.
A 5-A team with only 2 wins this season has the money and support to install a jumbotron? Okay ...
Texas high school stadiums are packed and growing.
Nah, the school board members voted for it, let them pay.
I wonder if this same school district would be willing to spend that much on new science laboratories, computer centers or even bonuses for their most successful teachers? What percent of their students play football and yet the district would lavish this amount for these privileged few while ignoring the education of everyone else. The school board members should all be forced to resign and all the coaches be fired.
When you average 10,000 people per game, add a dollar to the ticket and you got it paid for in short order.
