Moose Found in Parking Lot at Bradley Airport
NBC Connecticut ^ | Nov 7, 2016

Posted on 11/07/2016 2:32:18 PM PST by nickcarraway

A moose was spotted in a parking lot at Bradley Airport this morning and it was captured on video.

The moose got trapped in the parking lot of Enterprise Rent-A-Car at Bradley International Airport and Route 20 was briefly shut down while a team of Troopers, East Granby police and a crew from Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection corralled it back to open woods and swamp land.

Moose are the largest members of the deer family.

I see his problem. It’s really easy to lose track of where your car is there.

Although the airport is described as the ‘Hartford area’ airport, it is half in East Granby and half in Windsor Locks.

East Granby is very rural indeed, full of farms and woods. There is hardly anything there between the airport and the Mass border, and after you cross the border there isn’t much there either. They have moose, deer, and bears.

I live in that general area in the deep woods—we do see moose from time to time—it freaks out the dogs.

I grew up and lived most of my life in Connecticut (though south of Windsor Locks), and never saw a moose there.

Here in western Colorado we have moose that were introduced to the Grand Mesa.
Initially a few were brought down from Montana about 35 years ago, others referred to as errant moose making a nuisance of themselves on the front range of the Rockies (Denver Colo. Springs, etc..) ... not unlike the one in this story, were captured and transported over the mountains to Grand Mesa.
Grand Mesa is the largest flat top mountain in the world, over 500 square miles, heavily wooded, with over 300 lakes & reservoirs. Perfect moose country. The moose seem to think so as well, they're thriving in their new home ... so much so a short hunting season with limited (lottery type) hunting licenses are now issued each year.

I flew in there several years ago to pick up a car at the Consumer Reports test facility, which is somewhere south of town. It was pretty rural. Hartford isn’t all that big in the grand scheme of things. It’s not like this is LaGuardia or Love Field, with city all around for a long way.
