CBS2s Dave Lopez was at the beach covering another story when he said he heard what sounded like a firecracker.
Minutes later, he went over to hear a man yelling, You shot my dog, you shot my dog at police.
Lopez then saw a woman who appeared to be bleeding being attended to by authorities.
...
She explained that she had been shot. The unidentified woman told Lopez she was riding her bike with her boyfriend on the boardwalk.
She told Lopez the bullet hit her in the lower portion of her leg. He said she was conscious but understandably upset.

Dogs that get “out of control” should not be taken into public situations, where they may scare people.
I blame the owner, not the animal.
Pit Bulls gotta do what pit Bulls do ...
I blame the owner for owning a pit bull as they are responsible for more deaths and serious maulings than all other breeds combined. The owner had to forgo countless other breeds and mutts to own the one most likely go “out of control” without provocation. I recall watching a pit bull rescue program where they try to “re-home” abused pit bulls (*shudder*). The prospective owner was told that he may need a special device attached to his bicycle to keep the dog from becoming to “excited” because pit bulls have such a high prey drive that the sight of a bicycle going by would be too much for it. Pity everyone else in the neighborhood who doesn’t have that special device when biking, jogging, roller skating, skate boarding, gardening etc. Who owns a “pet” that may attack if a bicycle goes by because their “prey drive” is just so high.
“Who owns a “pet” that may attack if a bicycle goes by because their “prey drive” is just so high.”
Oh I’ve had dogs excited by bicycles...what got me about the program I was watching was that the dog couldn’t stop itself from attacking his owner if his owner biked with the dog on a leash. His.owner. *sigh*
Bummer. Bystanders being struck never looks good.
On a side note, I wouldn’t go to Venice if I was offered a complementary fully stocked limo for the trip. The last place I want to be is where mental cases take their out of control pit bulls for walks in areas where there are tons of foot traffic.
Many of us in free states have "special devices" that will stop a pit bull. I carry one in a holster.
That is one of the few breeds of dogs I do not like.
