Hangovers suck, and all the related calling in sick or totally-phoning-it-in-at-work days cost the U.S. economy an estimated $77 billion annually. Being able to rid ourselves of the unpleasant after-effects of a night of heavy drinking would not only be a triumph for the human spirit, but also for our nation’s GDP — so naturally, a Dutch brewer’s announcement that he’d created a “hangover-free beer” has been met with plenty of excitement.
Beer maker Thomas Gesink of Amsterdam’s De Prael brewery “says that he’s cracked the code for brewing beer which gets people drunk but doesn’t leave them cowering in a dark corner the next morning,” the Metro reports. (Cue the celebratory headlines, such as “Hangover-free beer is here. Rejoice!”)
Gesink is keeping most of the recipe a secret, but has revealed what he says are the beer’s “hangover-busting” ingredients: sea salt (to prevent dehydration), ginger (commonly used to treat nausea), willow fibers (said to have a “cleansing effect”), and vitamin B12. Even Gesink admits that his concoction isn’t fool-proof, and drinkers who go overboard will still feel bad the next day, but per the Metro he insists that “four or five beers will leave you feeling fresh in the morning.”
In reality, that probably depends more on your personal level of alcohol tolerance: “This is of course a marketing trick,” says Dr. Joris Verster, an associate professor at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Netherlands and the head of the Alcohol Hangover Research Group. “There is no scientific evidence that any of the ingredients prevents or reduces alcohol hangover.”
According to Verster, “The only beer that successfully prevents hangovers is already available in all stores: alcohol-free beer.”
If sipping O’Doul’s all night isn’t your idea of a good time, perhaps take Anthony Bourdain’s advice instead and combat the morning-after with a joint, a cold Coca-Cola, and a bowl of spicy noodles.
I thought American mass market breweries had been trying to prevent hangovers for decades by watering down their beer, lol.
But seriously, avoid sugary alcoholic beverages, eat something fatty and filling after you stop drinking, and drink a lot of water before you go to bed.
I don’t drink much at all anymore, but at one point in my life I was a seven night a week, bar-hopping pro. Watch the pain medications. Your liver can only take so much, no NSAIDs like Ibuprofin. It can kill you. Only aspirin if you must.
Whatever happened to “Powdered Alcohol”?
About four years ago, I heard a lot about this new product coming to America. I heard about how easy it would be for a student to sit in class with a H20 Bottle, add special powder and get falling down drunk before recess. Then, I heard nothing.
A watering hole I used to frequent had the sign: Free Beer Tomorrow.
Dihydrogen monoxide is dangerous, Hillary should ban it. For the children of course.

helps. Is why it is in Red Bull or energy drink - vodka
mix. But it can kill
Red Bull mixed drinks were just starting to get popular when I finally woke up and exited the drinking and bar scene. Makes for an alert, aggressive drunk, in my exposure. Especially combined with tequila.
The easiest way to avoid a hang over is to either a) not drink at ask or b) drink way less than you currently are
Just did the research. “’Palcohol’ was the company that manufactured it. It was declared legal for sale in the US, but the company decided NOT to make it. It is, however going to auction off the formula and process for making powdered alcohol. The auction is scheduled to begin on Jan. 1, 2017, and will continue depending on how bidding goes.
‘Powdered alcohol’ is banned in most states.
I believe the common outrageous abuse is snorting it.
It’s just microencapsulated alcohol. There is also ‘powdered water’ for baking; microencapsulated water molecules. The capsule melts at baking temp, releasing moisture into the baked product.
