Hope you enjoy. Surrender
music *ping*
Great song!
My kids get a kick out of the “mommy’s alright, daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird” part of the song. They say it is the only part of any “really old music” that they like.
Play em “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper, every kid should love that :)
Loved covering that in my last band.
“And when I woke up, Mom and Dad
Are rolling on the couch
Rolling in numbers, rock and rollin’
Got my KISS records out”
We used to call this “bubble-gum music”
Awesome song! Thanks for posting it!
Bubble Gum was pop (popular) music for little kids. Think Partridge Family, the Monkeys, Donnie and the rest of the Osmond clan, early Jackson 5 stuff. Cheap Trick was NEVER bubble gum.
um... ok
Yeah, Cooper was great but inconsistent, a few genius tunes sprinkled through his catalogue but a lot of other his other stuff is kind of lame in comparison. I get the feeling he is one of those artists that worked best with a certain producer or band members and couldn’t recreate the magic later.
I don’t think the lyrics about VD would be appropriate in bubble gum music. “Some Indonesian junk” - that’s not a ship!
I also wonder how the Japanese audiences took some of the lyrics:
“Before we married, Mommy served
In the WACS in the Philippines
Now, I had heard the WACs recruited
Old maids for the war
But mommy isn’t one of those
I’ve known her all these years”
I’m not sure if the young Japanese fans at Budokan in 1978 fully grasped what they’re talking about, or remember what the Japanese soldiers did when they conquered the Philippines.
Where does Rick Nielsen get his caps? Its one question that Google can’t seem to answer.
Great band.....college era for me
Early teens for Wifey
We both like em
They are LIVE tonight at Penn’s Peak in the Poconos !
Love this song and Budokan was a soundtrack for me and my friends! I believe those are the sanitized lyrics for what they were originally saying the WACS recruited...
Was at a County Fair in NW Ohio in Sept. They were giving the headline concert one evening and I could have gotten tickets at a very reasonable price. And I definitely would have gone, except that earlier this year they were in the news when they turned down a gig to play at the RNC convention in Cleveland, making a couple of nasty comments, such as not wanting to have to play with swastikas on their guitars. Jerks! You can have them, you’re welcome to them.
