A horrific miracle cure for autism peddled by a Southern California church that ended up simply being industrial bleachwhich is, uh, poisonwas exposed Friday by an ABC Los Angeles investigation. Everything about it is crazy.
The church, which is called Genesis II, pushes a fringe medical treatment of ingesting chlorine dioxidewhat the church refers to as MMS (Miracle Mineral Solution) and we refer to as bleachas a cure for autism. Autism is curable, chuch member Kerri Rivera, who has since distanced herself somewhat from the church, says to parents of children with autism in a video obtained by ABC Los Angeles. I like to convince people they can cure their kids.
Many parents wrote on autism-related Facebook pages and forums that they follow the churchs advice of having their children ingest chlorine dioxide in accordance with the lunar calendar, because, according to Rivera, parasites wreak havoc on the stomachs of autistic children during the full moon and need to be killed with bleach. Yes, really.
The churchs founder, a former Scientologist who claims to be from another galaxy...

But looks like Bernie.
This sort of thing helps give Christians a bad name.
Worse than Snake Handlers. At least most Snake Handlers don’t put the snakes on sick children.
I have never met family members of an autisic child who would do this, at least not openly.
He sure does, doesn’t he!
He didn't just "get clear". he got clear from another galaxy!!!
Here’s the website for this...”church” http://genesis2church.is/
Domain in Iceland?
Where the Pirates are taking over?
The idiot doctor in Great Briton kept trying to convince people that autism is connected to bad bacteria in the gut
People are ignore
They could have paid the voodoo witch doctor for a less damaging result
In the old days they used Snake Oil these days it’s bleach?
Well, I guess if “is” stands for Iceland, yeah. Weird, huh?
Well there you go, in that galaxy bleach is like coke, or maybe it's bourbon & coke, here on earth. Either way quite safe to ingest. That galaxy is also known to be autism free. Who would have possibly thunk it would be like, uh, poison here!!!
It gives Christians a bad name only for those who see the word “Church” and assume Christianity, they certainly don’t claim to be Christian. Their website says “We are non-religious in nature because we serve mankind, as opposed to worshiping a deity.” Nothing about Christianity.
You know, it is easy to judge parents of autistic children, who are desperate, and will latch onto any desperate hope of curing their children.
I have a autistic child, and I have realized, that sometimes parents with healthy kids are quick to judge and criticize, what they perceive to be quackery. They often zero empathy, since they have not walked a mile in their shoes.
I know many parents with special needs kids, who have gone with diet treatments (gluten free, lactose free etc.), chelation, acupuncture, MNRI.....the list is endless.
When there is no cure with conventional medicine, people are desperate to try anything that might have a cure. In this case, a person they trusted, offered one. I can empathize and understand why many of them took this snake oil.
Theses are not stupid people, many of them might be smarter than many of us here. Desperation drives some people to grab onto any hope they see. Again I don’t expect many to understand.
I apologize for my rant, and step of my soapbox.
OK - I took the leap and checked out the site.
For $200 they send you a course in how to administer the “Master Mineral Solution” and you can become a real “Reverend” (complete with ID Card!) and administer this “sacrament” to your friends and loved ones at your very own local chapter of the Genesis II Church.
Bleach your way to heaven?
I spent ten years when my child was in school volunteering in the classroom of the special education section. There were plenty of autistic children in that room. I have great empathy for them and their parents
I have no room for people to be stupid and that is exactly what this treatment is. Giving a fancy name to confuse those less educated is atrocious. If s child has an autism diagnosis there is s pediatrician involved. There are also special services involved Trust those folks if you haven’t a background
I am autistic.
I don’t know what my parents went through with me. I just hope it wasn’t the cause of their divorce.
To be honest, however, it really makes me angry when people treat kids who were like me as freaks. There’s a difference between acknowledging that our brains are abnormal and feeding us bleach!
Should have used Windex.
Yeah, the stuff isn’t Clorox, but at the same time, I wouldn’t drink it or have any of my children drink it.
It’s a bleaching agent for paper, mostly.
Regular bleach is sodium hypochlorite.
