Fans of American professional sports can easily reel off teams when asked to name the worst franchises in all of sports. Hockeys Toronto Maple Leafs and the NFLs New York Jets are two contenders, as are Michael Jordan's Charlotte Bobcats and MLBs Tampa Bay Rays. Youd be hard-pressed to find anyone whod put the San Francisco 49ers on such a list, as they're one of the most storied franchises in NFL history, but ESPN just named them the worst franchise in all of sports. Number 122 out of 122.
This is tough for us 49ers fans to swallow. We know all about all the teams recent misfires and performance problems, and the Niners are perhaps the worst team in the NFL this season, but we're now to believe that even perennial laughingstock franchises like the Edmonton Oilers and the Cleveland Browns are superior to the team that's won five Super Bowls and played in one as recently as 2013?
My first reaction was to examine ESPNs methodology. I saw that bang for the buck was important criteria, meaning that the teams winning percentage is compared to its ticket prices. San Francisco charges top dollar for an inferior product at its new billion-dollar stadium in Santa Clara, but this isn't of much concern to those who watch the games on television. If this, where the team is ranked at 113, were removed, the 49ers would at least he bumped above the very bottom position...

I guess the SJW stuff isn’t really floating ESPN’s boat.
Females, they are fickle!
I love the Leafs and this article has triggered me. Criticism of my beloved Leafs is intolerant and unacceptable. I need counselling now.
Heh.
No discussion of this topic that does not mention the Arizona/Phoenix Coyotes is complete.
But you can drown your sorrows at their playing with one of their $11 Bud Lights...
Was a staunch Niners fan from 1988 - 2015. I held on after Jed York chased Harbaugh off because of the new stadium near me.
Now, I no longer watch the gold diggers and take some cheer in their losses - especially when Crappernick is starting. I have adopted the Rams in 2016.
Well some team is worse than my Mariners? Thought so..
I imagine that attending a 49’ers game at home, when you consider the cost of a ticket, concessions, parking, etc. is about $200 to $250 per person. I can see how fans would be ticked off when their vastly overpaid and losing QB seems much more focused on being a social activist than winning football games. The Niners are not just losing this year they are not even competitive. Why does management even put up with this? While I loath Bill Belicheck I know that he would not have hesitated to cut this guy at the outset of all this. Bill is a football guy and any player that isn’t is gone immediately. That (and cheating of course) is why the guy is a winner.
They should release Kapernick. Too much of a distraction. Release 4-6 others at the same time to take away from the distraction.

Good News for the Leafs (they have been 122 the past two years, but have moved up to 118!!!). Three of the four teams they passed are NFL.—the 9ers, Browns, and Rams.
Look at Chad OchoCinco during his stint with NE.
Rick, lucky for you OHIP does cover psychiatric treatment.
Just kidding, I used to be a Lions fan.
Any team that can win 116 regular-season games and then totally gork in the the first playoff series is worthy of the title of Most Pathetic Sports Team Ever. This is especially true when one considers that that 2001 was the last great season the Mariners had.
All baseball fans in Latte Land have to hold on to are commemorative videos of the 1995 and 2001 seasons. Seriously, that's like an old spinster pining over the only two ex-boyfriends in her life who didn't sleep around on her. Oh, Yay.
Definitely worse than the 49ers.
I haven’t been able to watch baseball since then. They had only lost to the Yankees once during the regular season and then joked still gets me today. I lay it at the feet of Lou Pinella, who was notorious for sitting on his hands and doing nothing.
I got that Super Bowl on tape. I been watching it every day. I always feel like they're gonna win. I feel like they're gonna pull it out. But they never do.
I quit watching ESPN - The PC sports Network
That's what watching ESPN programming is like.
agreed. the Leafs are a class organization. I watched the ceremony where they retired the ‘Honored Numbers’ of former players. the only single digit still in play is (I think) #3.
also, you will not see a protest or a hockey player taking a knee during the Anthem of either the US or Canada at any NHL game.
