iPhone, ,,FreeRepublic question

Posted on 10/23/2016 5:59:31 AM PDT by MNDude

I am curious if anybody knows the answer to this. And some Free Republic postings, the "reader view" works, and some other postings, it does not Does anyone know why, and if that is something we can when posting an article?

I never use reader view here. Why use it? There’s no ads to block.

It makes text bigger for when I don’t have my reading glasses. I’m pushing 90 you know.

Hi MNDude...I believe it is an HTML5 thing that Apple leveraged, and it works if you have Safari, and if the website developer has written their content in a specific way.

That is why you sometimes see it, and sometimes...you don’t.

I use it a lot when it is available...makes it easier to read.

It is a under appreciated feature, IMO. What it does is uncluttered what you want to read and present it in a page with minimum formatting and minimum pictures associated with the article.

When you enter it, all the ads, the frames, the videos, the flashing texts and animations disappear, and all you see is the article.

If you see the little icon as indicated by the red arrow, you can use it:

Here is what the same article looks like in Reader view:

Here, though, you can see the shortcoming, if the person creating the web page doesn't do it correctly (they have to markup the content in HTML a specific way to include all of it a certain way) and in this case, they didn't do that so you only see a portion of the content. But when it works, its very nice.

Just turn it off and use the enlarge motion. You can get the text as large as you want

No, did not know you were pushing 90. I understand the need for bigger text now.

Oh I use it quite a bit, when the page is constructed properly.

I just don’t use it here.
