This Thanksgiving, let's give thanks to God, and the middle finger to Roger Goodell
10/23/16 | The Fop

I know that Thanksgiving is still a month away, but if we want to wage an effective NFL boycott, then a little community organizing is in order.

Thanksgiving is the most important day of the football season for American patriots to send a message to Roger Goodell. On this day, we give thanks for the greatest country in the world.......a country that Colin Kaepernick says was never great.

Kaepernick is entitled to his opinions. But by allowing Kaepernick, and other players who share his sentiments, to use NFL games as a venue to express these views, Goodell is tacitly endorsing them.

Goodell's behavior is in line with the rest of modern day corporate America. If the NFL, or any other big corporation, does something to upset the Black activists, the Feminist activists, or the Gay activists, the corporate suits will jump through hoops to appease them.

But because of the media's mantra about how the Left has won the culture wars, big corporations no longer have any fear of offending Conservative consumers. The conventional wisdom is that we've been so beaten into submission, that we're no longer capable of speaking in a powerful, unified voice. Instead, we'll just shrug our shoulders and say "that's the way the world is today, nuthin' you can do about it anymore".

I'm sure Goodell knows how Left wing ESPN is. And sports fans still watch it. Some of them may complain, but they still watch. So why would he assume that these Black Lives Matter inspired National Anthem protests would ruffle Conservative's feathers much more than all the other Liberal preaching that sports fans have to put up with when they tune in to watch a game?

In the weeks following Muhammad Ali's death, ESPN reporters must have asked every single Black athlete in every single sport what Ali meant to them. If Ali didn't burn his draft card and identify with the Black Power movement and the Hippies, ESPN and the rest of the media would've treated him as just another boxing champ with a big ego and a big mouth (just ask George Foreman). So if we can stomach this kind of stuff all year round, year after year, why wouldn't Goodell be tempted to test our patience a little further?

I'm old enough to remember when football players would politely hand the ball over to the ref after scoring a touchdown. These days, between the vulgar showboating and trash talking, the WWF style TV coverage, and seemingly weekly incidences of football players either beating up their wives/girlfriends or getting involved in posse/gang related violence, it's been getting increasingly more difficult to get excited about the NFL for many years now.

You could argue that some of us having been looking for the perfect excuse to let Goodell, and the rest of the corporate sports world and sports media, know that we've had about enough!

So this Thanksgiving, let's do everything in our power to force Roger Goodell to do some serious soul searching. Unlike Left wing social justice warriors, we Conservatives are not constantly looking to express outrage. We just want to be treated with a little respect.

And the truth is, like America as a whole, it really wouldn't take that much to make NFL football great again. Maybe if enough of us stop watching long enough, Goodell and the networks won't be left with any other choice.

I’m sure Tom Brady will continue to do his part tomorrow.

Because of liberals like Bob Costas and PC situations, I’ve hardly watched football in years. I don’t intend to watch any games this season. Football hasn’t been enjoyable or memorable to me in a long while.

what’s interesting about this is how ESPN and NFL have been moving from apolitical to leftward together. It feels like ESPN is leading the charge but less clear why Goodell is following.

The last time for me was when Steve Young was QB for the 49ers!

Like John Riggins of the Redskins. His comment to the showboaters was, “act like you have been there before.”

Me too!

Grew up rooting for the Colts in Dolphin country. The Shula defection and being booted out of the NFC and into the same division as the tacky Fins was too much to bear. It was heartbreaking to see the Colt’s fortunes going down as the Dolphins were on their way up.

There were lots of kids who were from New York, Philly, Chicago, Baltimore, Cleveland, etc who all jumped on the Dolphin bandwagon after rooting for the Giants, Eagles, Bears, etc. But it was different for Colts fans, we just couldn’t do it.

I turned the NFL off once the kneeling started at the Miami game the first weekend. Don’t miss it. Still enjoy the college game.

I wish the owners would grow a set and either fine/fire any player, coach, cheerleader, etc. in their organization that is disrespecting their brand. It’s their team, their league. If a player doesn’t like his rules, he can always opt to play Canadian football. Screw ‘em.

The games this Thanksgiving are Minnesota at Detroit, Washington at Dallas and Pittsburgh at Indianapolis. Three decent matchups. I hope they get slaughtered in the ratings. I’ll be watching LSU at Texas A&M that night!

If my dad were alive, he would criticize the sitters and the kneelers, but he would still be watching his Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. He would not listen to me on that day.

No “tacit” to it. By refusing to let the Dallas Cowboys put pro-police stickers on their helmets, by their abominable treatment of Rush Limbaugh, and by fining players who wore 9/11 memorial cleats, Roger Goodell has outed himself as a full-bore, anti-American, flag-burning, troop-spitting, piece of $hit that would make Abbie Hoffman proud.

I largely gave up on professional sports and TV years ago. I have no idea why so many people allow themselves to be lulled into a false sense of normality with the “bread and circuses” routine.

Quit watching pro football years ago because I saw where it was headed.

What is taking the rest of America so long?

I guess it is the same thing that is taking the rest so long to see that our Country is failing. I also saw this decades ago.

Only one answer to fix the problem, #TEXIT
