This weekend will be spent listening to fantastic musicians in an outdoor setting. And it's all free.
Today's agenda includes folk rocking sisters SHEL from Colorado, singer/songwriter Valerie June, Dry Branch Fire Squad, others.
For Saturday and Sunday Kris Kristofferson, the Mekons, Vince Gill and the Time Jumpers, Wynonna, John Doe, Hayes Carll all look like good choices.
So much to choose from. 2016 Festival Schedule here
I love country music, but not
bluegrass. I ain’t THAT country!
Used to barbque in the backyard and listen to that great music, we lived two blocks from Golden Gate Park in the good old days, home, wife, kids, dog, cat.. times mostly gone with the wind... sure miss that dog.
Love Bluegrass. A few years ago I paid $500 for a front row seat to see Vince Gill and the Del McCoury Band. Unfortunately Vince had a cold and could barely sing but it was still worth it. Love Patty Lovelace too.
Consider the full name of the festival. The “hardly strictly” part is important, and the lineup spans an incredible range of Americana music.
Hard bluegrass bands are becoming a rarity at this festival. Most of the industry titans are gone.
I’d like to see this festival commit to all types of strictly Americana music, but it seems to be reaching out to a more world beat audience.
Wish Johnny Cash could have recorded this. Or maybe June Carter;)

I used to hit some bluegrass festivals backc in the day of Doc Watson, etc - but they have passed.
There are still a lot of good folks, but many festivals offer a mix of music and not just bluegrass.
And I *really* love country!
If anyone wants to hear incredible Bluegrass, Google the band Sleepy Man. I saw them live once. They are young young men, and incredibly talented. Musical prodigies actually.
FWIW, Kris Kristofferson was fantastic. He performed all of his famous songs.
